Eligy For Amy Lyrics
she's moved away
to a kinder place
where her soul flies
she's smiling down apoun us
her heart warms the room now
just help us through
today your spirit
it guides us
Amy can you hear me?
upstairs gently listening
all down here wishing
you hadn't left so soon
I want to thank you for
believing in me and I believe in you
there's something strange about it
I can shut my eyes
and see you there
I wish i'd said some more words now
the music is singing
Amy can you hear me?
Upstairs gently listening
all down here wishing
you hadn't left so soon
Amy's smile will cure you
so close your eyes and call her
she's waiting upstairs with Jesus
where everyone's your friend
to a kinder place
where her soul flies
her heart warms the room now
just help us through
today your spirit
it guides us
upstairs gently listening
all down here wishing
you hadn't left so soon
believing in me and I believe in you
there's something strange about it
I can shut my eyes
and see you there
I wish i'd said some more words now
the music is singing
Upstairs gently listening
all down here wishing
you hadn't left so soon
so close your eyes and call her
she's waiting upstairs with Jesus
where everyone's your friend

Probably the most significant song in my life. I first heard this song just after leaving for college, and leaving my high school girlfriend of 2 years. Upon hearing it, I decided immediately to burn it to CD and mail it to her for her upcoming birthday. A mutual friend informed me that she listened to this one song (of 15 on the CD) on repeat all afternoon. Now neither of us can hear it without thinking of the other.
This is a incredibly sad song, but nonethe less very, very good. I hear its about a girl Pat met in college who died from cancer, does anybody else know anything more?
What a lovely song. There are some songs when the lyrics really speak to you and they can stand on their own. Obviously, the lyrics are what the song is truly about, but it would not be the beautiful work that it is without the melancholy piano--what an excellent combination.
such a pretty song
This song makes me cry when i listen to it. Ever since my Grandma died last year, i have heard songs that remind me of her, but this song has got to be the best one yet. I think it is one of the best songs i have ever heard! i just started listening to The Pat McGee Band and i love them. Amy in this song is my grandma!
this song is so sweet, i actually heard it by accident cause i downloaded it cause my name just happens to be Amy too...but after hearing it, its just really emotional
Has anyone else heard a live version, supposedly with Howie Day on vocals? Seriously powerful stuff, even more so than Pat's live cover of "In Your Eyes". I think it's a bootleg. It runs about 5 minutes and 43 seconds. Does anyone know what show this is from or where the recording came from?
