Until The Night Lyrics

I never ask you where you go
After I leave you in the morning
We go our different ways to separate situations
It's not that easy anymore

Today I do what must be done
I give my time to total strangers
But now it feels as though the the day goes on forever
More than it ever did before

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

Now you're afraid that we have changed
And I'm afraid we're getting older
So many broken hearts, so many lonely faces
So many lovers come and gone

I'll have my fears like every man
You'll have you tears like every woman
Today we'll be unsure, is this what we believe in
And wonder how can we go wrong

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

When the sun goes down
And the day is over
When the last of the light has gone
As they pour into the street
I will be getting closer
As the cars turn their headlights on
As they're closing it down
I'm gonna open it up
And while they're going to sleep
We'll just be starting to touch
I'm just beginning to feel
I'm just beginning to give
I'm just beginning to feel
I'm just beginning to live
Before I leave you again
Before the light of dawn
Before this evening can end
I have been waiting so long

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
I'll just keep holding on
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

I absolutely love this song. A man discussing how after meany years of marriage he is still madly in love with his wife and can't wait to get home to her. They either see the rest of their friends breaking up or have made it through hard times (So many broken hearts, so many lonely faces So many lovers come and gone). In any event, they are still together.

I know this sounds gay, but the last evrse is abosulte magic: A perfect crescendo of the protaganist rushing home to his lover, finally exploding in that great sax solo (I've said it before, noone rights for sax like BJ).

Although he missed the target a bit on "Say Goodbye to Hollywood", this is a prefect tribute to the Phil Spectre Wall of Sound, as well as to the Righteous Bros. Blue Eyed Soul.

By far my favorite BJ song (I just wish I could hear him do it live).

Another untouched gem, not many people seem to mention this song, but this is my favorite on 52nd Street, I can't say favorite in all because every song is so good, but you pretty much got the meaning down, I just had comment on how great this is, and you are right in saying no one writes sax like Billy Joel and this entire song is absolute magic, but esspecially the last verse and the final chorus.

This is an awesome song. The build up from the bridge is incredible. Billy knows how to play with people's emotions. By the time he hits the "i've been waiting so long" I am so pumped up. Awesome build up to the end of the song.

I'd love to hear this song sung by a really rich voice, a Neil Hannon or a Scott Walker. Great, undervalued song and the hidden gem of 52nd Street.

Absolutely terrible this has so few comments. My mom told me that I had to listen to this song and when I finally did I felt so touched by it. Fantastic song about how a man a woman trudge through their day just so that they can get home and just be with one another. Beautiful.
