Black Country Woman Lyrics
(Studio Chatter: "Shall we roll it, Jimmy?"
("We're rolling on, what, one?")
("No, one again?")
(- Airplane heard flying overhead - "Got to get this airplane off.")
("Naw, leave it, yeah.")
Hey, hey, mama, what's the matter here (X2)
You didn't have to tell me that you love me so
You didn't have to love me, mama, let me go
Hey, hey, mama, what's the matter here
You didn't have to make me a total disgrace
You didn't have to leave me with that beer in my face
Hey, hey, mama, what's the matter here
That's alright, it's awful dog-gone clear.
Hey, hey, baby, why you treat me mean (X2)
You didn't have to crucify me like you did
You didn't have to tell me I was just your kid
Hey, hey, mama, why'd you treat me mean
You didn't have say you'd always be by my side
Y' didn't have to tell me you'd be my blushin' bride
Hey, hey, mama, why you treat me mean
But that's alright, I know your sisters, too
You didn't have to tell me that you love me so
You didn't have to leave me, mama, let me go
Hey, hey, mama, what is wrong with you
You didn't have to leave me like a total disgrace
You didn't have to leave me with that beer on my face
Hey, hey, mama, what is wrong with you
But that's alright, I'd be the same way, too
You didn't have to crucify me like you did
You didn't have to tell me I was just your kid
Hey, hey, mama, what's the matter here
You didn't have to tell me you would be my own
You didn't have to tell me, baby, let me go
Hey, hey, mama, what is wrong with you
That's alright, I know your sister, too.

I think this had to do with Robert Plant's affair with his wife's younger sister. What is and What Should Never Be was written about her too.
@NickZepp I don’t believe that’s correct. He never had an affair with Maureen’s sister. He was with Maureen’s sister first, before he married Maureen. That’s what What Is And What Should Never Be is about. After Robert and Maureen divorced Robert took up with Maureen’s younger sister again. They never married but they did have a son together. They were never together during Robert and Maureen’s marriage.

i have seen plant 3 times,he sang this 3 times.
Ok...I can't beleive no ones posted for this one yet...So I'll do the honors.....I think this is a great song.....The guitar and the harmonica are very playful and happy-go-lucky......It really seems to fit the mood of the song....Basically talkin about another woman (these guys never had a lack of infatuated hippie chicks ;) This girl left him hard up......maybe she didn't like the pickup line...thus the beer in the face....who knows?....any how, it doesn't seem to be a big deal...I know your sisters too!...gotta love it.....I like the plane in the beginning too.....just a nice accent to the carefree lovin this song is all about.....
they actually recorded this song in Mick Jagger's back yard!
The black country is a part of the west middlands in england it gets it's name from all the coal mines that used to be there. There is a famous pub were the band members of zeppelin used to drink. I heard that plant teaches at a local collage. i mean how cool would it be to be taught music by plant. well this gives little insight into what the songs about but might give it some background.
I love the little intro of this song. I basically just love the overall mood of this song
I heard that if you listen closely you can actually hear an airplane flying overhead during thnis song.
Oh, It says it right there!
This song is great. A lot like Boogie with Stu how they leave in some conversation to lighten the mood and make it more... personal...get rid of their god-like status for a simple and fun song.
"they actually recorded this song in Mick Jagger's back yard!"--COOL! this song is just a cool song
