This is the most underrated song in Zep's catalogue. It's one of those mysterious 'Why doesn't EVEYBODY love this song?' songs.
This song is about the Succubus. She is the personification of the demonic female spirit that visits a man at night in his dreams. When sleeping, people are vulnerable to spiritual attack because they are soley under control of their subconscious mind. Women get a visit from the Incubus, and men get a visit from the Succubus. These spirits know our hidden desires perfectly, and this leaves us at their mercy; but they are merciless! It is a violent rape of the depths of the soul, which will require changing the sheets when you wake up! Musically, this track really kicks ass as well; superb talent by all four band members.
