This is honestly one of the most confusing songs to interpret that I've run across, which is great, I love those. The only way that I can interpret it is that it's a girl attempting to impress a guy. Her manner of doing this is to buy a car to get with him, ala "And that's the car to his soul. He will bring you all the millions in gold, child -- if you will only let him have his role" With "he" being a sorta rotation between the car and the guy she's trying to impress. The song is told from the perspective of the dealer trying to prey on her desperation to get him.

I think there is some comment on the auto industry and destruction caused by obsession with car for transportation and culture. The clash of ideals. The freedom that a car can provide compared to destruction that is required to keep up the car culture. 'All the plantings are young and able - and i hope you find a way to buy it.' This is an interesting line that maybe points to what I am saying.....
But over the top of everything is the fact that it is Scott Spiral Stairs Kannberg lyrics, and you just know he wants to be off-beat, quirky and maybe even meaningless.
I mean a Passat is a pretty lame car to be the way to someones soul.

Not sure what it means--just wanted to post FIRST and say how much I love this song....and why don't they use it in a commercial for the actual car...! hmm....is he comparing a girl to a car? who knows....
