Cream of Gold Lyrics
So much for destiny,
A pin prick on my knee,
The frost you paint
Across our dead affair.
I sensed the toxic aura
From the second we touched,
You were stitched up venom
And I was the cursed from the Vedic.
Time is a one way track
And I am not coming back,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
Time tired you're tainted through,
Wind (wins?), songs and substitutes,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now.
The afterlife is steep,
We wonder and retreat,
And everyone is after us.
Skirt the gone street hawkers
With the black lemonade,
Keep an arrow trained on their
Conflicted minds 'cause they stutter.
Time is the one way track
And I am not coming back,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
Time tired you're tainted through,
Wins, songs and substitutes,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now!
A pin prick on my knee,
The frost you paint
Across our dead affair.
I sensed the toxic aura
From the second we touched,
You were stitched up venom
And I was the cursed from the Vedic.
And I am not coming back,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
Time tired you're tainted through,
Wind (wins?), songs and substitutes,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now.
We wonder and retreat,
And everyone is after us.
Skirt the gone street hawkers
With the black lemonade,
Keep an arrow trained on their
Conflicted minds 'cause they stutter.
And I am not coming back,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
Time tired you're tainted through,
Wins, songs and substitutes,
I dream in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now,
I bleed in beige
Why'd you leave me so far now!

stickie pants... you trippin'
This is good advice in this song. Too bad the lyrics are listed wrong. Maybe one day I'll put you all wise.
One of the angriest Pavement songs, how the singer is dead, a zombie, even, and wanders through a world of death created from his heartache and projected outward through his eyes that view a world without color, with black lemonade and even dreams are stripped of all hues but beige, even his blood that spills is not red but beige. Zombie city, man, a post apocalyptic zombie city, all because of her.
Brilliant.
Brilliant.
oh my how i love thee, malkmus... I believe this song's general pessisism could be read as a reflection of the philosophy of Schopenhauer, who based his lovely and quite life-negative works on the teachings of the Indian "vedics" ("I was cursed by the Vedic") Cursed with knowledge, therefore cursed with misery? I don't know...I just enjoy throwing ideas around.
GOOD SONG
i agree, is it not 'why'd you lead me so far now' though? i can't really tell for sure, but that'd make more sense to me. i love it either way though.
One of my favourite songs.
