Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Lyrics

Babe, baby, baby, I'm Gonna Leave You.
I said baby, you know I'm gonna leave you.
I'll leave you in the summertime,
Leave you when the summer comes a-rollin'
Leave you when the summer comes along.

Babe, babe, babe, babe, babe, babe,
Baby, baby, I wanna leave you.
I ain't jokin' woman, I got to ramble.
Oh, yeah, baby, baby, I believin',
We really got to ramble.
I can hear it callin' me the way it used to do,
I can hear it callin' me back home!

Babe, oh, babe... I'm gonna leave you
Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you
Oh, I can hear it callin 'me
I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do? Ooooh

I know, I know, I know I never, never, never, never, never gonna leave you, babe
But I got to go away from this place,
I've got to quit you, yeah
Ooh, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, ooh, don't you hear it callin' me?
Oh, woman, woman, I know, I know
It feels good to have you back again
And I know that one day, baby, it's gonna really grow, yes it is.
We gonna go walkin' through the park every day.
Come what may, every day, ooh

My my my my my, my babe.
I'm gonna leave you, go away...
... Oh I miss you, baby

It was really, really good.
You made me happy every single day.
But now... I've got to go away! Oh, oh, oh.

Baby, baby, baby
That's when it's callin' me
I said that's when it's callin' me back home...

I believe he is just leaving for the summer. It sounds like he is leaving forever, but he will return when winter comes. It's about a musician's lifestyle where he must leave, eventhough he doesn't always want to. It's a sad song because he loves her, but living on the road comes with it's own lifestyle such as partying and rambling. Towards the end of the song he returns home and he remembers how good it felt to be home. He wants to make plans for the future with her, but once again he will leave. Great song. Very mysterious in a way. Oh and by the way STFU WITH ALL THE LOTR BULLSHIT! IT'S OLD ALREADY!!

sorta like he's conflicted on whether he should leave for good, or come back, but he can't leave her .. but he wants too.. but cant. Basically it's about an on again off again relationship. And yes this song has nothing to do with LOTR.. Like most LZs don't. Sorry but classics like "You Shook Me", "When the Levee Breaks" and Most of the rest have nothing to do with drugs OR LOTRs.. I am pretty sure old bluesmen were so into LOTRs and not problems like their cheating wives, drugs, or them being poor.... No it was def...

Favorite Zep song. I thought they wrote this song. Anyway, I always think of Odysseus leaving Calypso's Island - the sea and his home calling him. It's right up their alley (Achilles last stand)

First off, in my Led Zeppelin piano/guitar book, the credits for this song are "Words and Music by Anne Bredon, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant." Not "Traditional Arrangement by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant" (such as for Gallows Pole). So Led did write it themselves.

About the lyrics, I've always seen it two ways. One is the more obvious, the man who has to leave a girl but doesn't want to. Everyone else here seems to have covered that one, so I don't need to explain it again.

The other is a darker, much more depressing variation of that. Throughout the song, Plant is singing about how he has to leave not only this girl, "But I got to go away from this place..." However, he doesn't really want to leave her. Just the place. And he also keeps referring to how he's being called "home." Home is a very common metaphor for heaven. And he says that "one day," things will be good again. They will be together eventually and "walk through the park every day." They will be in a paradise together. In this interpretation, he's planning on killing himself.

I like the first one better. Much better. But I thought I should share the second one anyway.

@erasmus11290 Your seconde interpretation is awesome and powerful! I never used to listen to the words in songs as I was more interested in the backing music. Haven't heard anybody else see it that way. Do you have a more elaborate analysis than what you posted?

@erasmus11290 I got that vibe too re your second interpretation.

my favorite zeppelin song as well. between the beautiful acoustic guitar, the kick-ass chorus, and plant's awesome vocals...it's definitely my favorite. it has a lot of power AND beauty at the same time, which I like. one of their greatest.

yeah 'Jimmy Page06'. Shame if you were really Jimmy Page you'd know this song wasn't by you...and your email address would not be led zeppelin4i209423094234 or some such thing.....

my point is that this song and quite a few on the first album are not all Led Zeppelin's own. But they did make them seem that way.

Everyone earlier was talking about how it was a folk song, I always thought it leaned a little bit more toward a bluesy feel, but if you listen.. it's kind of a spanish... Flemenco TYPE of thing. Definite Spanish roots
