Sister Lyrics

Here I am again,
Overwhelming feelings
A thousand miles away
From your ocean home
Part of me is near

Thoughts of what we were invade
The miles that stand between
We can't separate
You're all I hoped you'd become

Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you

Fleeting visits pass
Still they satisfy
Reminders of the next
Overshadow goodbye
Our flames burn as one

Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you

All I am begins with you
Thoughts of hope understood
Half of me breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true

Here we are again saying goodbye
Still we fall asleep underneath the same sky
You're all I knew you'd become

Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you

Entwined, you and I
Our souls speak from across the miles
Intertwined, you and I
Our blood flows from the same inside
Half of me, breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true

I see you, I feel you
When I close my eyes
I see walking there...
I see you dancing in my mind

Well, I know this hasn't been posted on in a while, but speculation is actually wrong. This song was written by Zac Maloy about his sister, Tava, who is very much alive. At the time he wrote it, they had both moved away from Oklahoma to pursue their dreams (his music, her movie production) and she was living in California. Due to this, they didn't see each other much, and he wrote this song about missing her. She had already been very successful in her behind-the-scenes movie career, and he was very proud of her. I come from the same home town as they do, and remember them both well. He was far preppier than his Nixon image would suggest, but always sang well none-the-less.

You know, I always thought this was a song to an ex-girlfriend, someone who was so deeply loved she became like a part of him. "All I am begins with you" - I've felt like that in relationships. Also, "Half of me breathes in you", etc.

What about the part that says, "You're all I knew you'd become"? To me that doesn't make sense to me if the sister's dead. But I'm not disputing that that is what the song's about if someone has that on good authority....I've just always seen it as a touching love song.

I really like this song. This might sound silly to some of you...but doesn't it remind you of the cartoon An American Tale? I always thought the first verse said, "Miles away/From our russian home" and then the part where he says, "Still we fall aleep underneath the same sky" reminds me of the song Fieval sings to his sister in the movie. I know it's silly, but that's what it makes me think of.

This song came out a week after my 15 yr old sister died. As an artist and guitar player it comforted me that she was in heaven learning from those that had gone before. (She was a big Kurt Cobain fan) I found peace in remembering her through this song. Every word was right on! Now I am beyond awestruck as some people compare this to the American Tale song! We no lie sang this song in our bunkbeds all the time and played it at her burial with everyone singing along (Heartwrenching!) I cannot believe how I didn't put...

This song is about one of the band members sister. She died when she was young and he still remebers the good days he had with her "Sister I see you Dancing on the stage of memory" I would also think he has seen her ghost or that her ghost visits him by this phrase: "Fleeting visits pass Still they satisfy Reminders of the next overshadow goodbye" And further he talks about how their souls speak across the miles. The ocean represents the distance between this world and the next. It has nothing to do with this realm in time. As far as him breathing in and blood flowing part, all that he is saying is that he lives on with her inside him.

That's the best meaning I have heard. Beautiful song. Thanks for sharing.

I created an account just to give my input. My brother was killed by a drunk driver 10 yrs ago (he was 25 & I was 19). We were so close growing up and it destroyed me when he died. I am finally "at peace" with his death as much as one can be but I've always wondered what he thinks about me and the person that I've become. He visits me in ways that I know it is him, tthere's no denying it. I heard this for the first time yesterday (strange/perfect timing) then googled the lyrics. What if he is writing from another person's perspective and it's actually about a brother that died, talking to his sister who is still alive. Idk. It fits perfectly in my situation. Just a thought. :)

My Interpretation

This is a very touching song to me. It actually reminded me of my sister when I first heard it. She had just gone off to college (Texas A&M) and she and I have always been really close and I missed her and this song reminded me of her. The only thing that really has a conflict with that thought, is "thoughts of love remain true." I do love my sister but not in the way that I think the song means. Awesome song though. Thanks.

this song reminds me of a woman who is like a bigger sister to me,and I love her like a sister.. it means awhole lot to me..but i don't think that it means anything weird when they say thoughts of love remain true,i just think it means he's close to her and always will be,nothing weird at all i think

I always assumed the sister had died. Truly a beautiful song, and it's unfortunate that more people don't know it. This was a hit on rock radio in New York during the 90's, not sure what happened to the Nixons.
