Don't Let Me Down

this song is one of my absolute favorites. john's voice is so raw and brilliant.

i think "don't let me down" is one of the realest things you can say to a person. you put in so much trust and faith in this person and you're in that state where they can either make you or break you. it's like a plea of "i'm making myself vulnerable to you, please don't hurt me"

John's in love with Yoko and he feels that it's his first love. Maybe he felt something like it before, but he doesn't want it to fail this time around which is why he's saying "Don't Let Me Down" He's opening up and he's very vulnerable... to have someone hurt you in that state is such a let down.

I very much agree Bickle, its a beautiful song no matter what. Its about fear and once you have something you've wanted so badly, the fear of losing it.

John Lennon echos a plea to Yoko that she must not “let him down.” John's love for her is so intense that he knows he'd be shattered if she left him. He is ready to give up the Beatles and move forward with her in love, as artist, and activist.

Yoko's love for John is also deep. John acknowledges “Nobody ever loved me like she does.” It's the love he had longed for, and now that he had it, was afraid to lose it. “And if somebody loved me like she do me,” was probably a sudden thought John had. A sort of “What if” somebody had loved him like Yoko did? Maybe John was referring to his mother. Perhaps he mused for a moment that if his mother had loved him like Yoko did, maybe his fears and perspective on love would have been different.

His pleas to Yoko continue.

John is experiencing his first true love with a woman, and wonders, “Don't you know it's going to last.” He is immersing himself in this love, and realizes he will do all he can on his end to make it last. He just needs to know if Yoko is just as eager for this “forever” love — a love that has “no past.”

“She really done me,” and “ She done me good,” appear to be completely sexual, but knowing John's penchant for deeper lyrical meanings, I'm sure he is citing that Yoko has done him good in all aspects of their relationship. He is pleased to have met his other half — his soul mate.

This song has a certain rolling stones feeling to it, maybe it's the guitar sound. Anyway it's a really good song.

I think that in this song, John is talking to himself. He don't want to do anything to spoil his relationship because "nobody love him like she does". I think he is trying to put the things clear and act carefully. It's like he is talking with his mirror.

This song could only be about Ono.

When released.. I was going through this same emotion. My fiance had left me.. because her parents demanded. I was younger, the wrong religion, uneducated and an American Indian. They took her from me and moved far away. This song was playing as I followed her to the airport to see her off, still hoping we could somehow be together. The flip side of the single was "Something" and both songs were co-hits being played over and over (no pun intended). Even today, hearing either one of these songs is haunting because they instantly take me back to being in love with my insides quaking from the things about her that moved me, and my voice and lungs exploding and ready to scream "Don't Let Me Down." I guess the Beetles had my number.. that's what made them genius.

I like all the rambling in the "Oooh she done me" parts.

I think this song is about a lot more than sex. I think its about the fear of losing the one person he's ever been in love with. the "Don't let me down" kinda gives that away, and I love this song.
