This is one of the truest songs which has ever been written, regarding a break-up. Depending upon how many years the relationship went on... the hopes which had been attached to the commitment... and the other people impacted... it only grows in depth of meaning. Love is often thought of as life's most beautiful "thing" - when it dies, it is the death of beauty we witness. Sadness and regret are appropriate responses.

Never play this song for someone depressed...it's like handing them a straight razor.

He really doesn't want it to end but he knows it is ending...and he's being a man and acknowledging it...in fact maybe even ended it himself or acted in a way that caused the end. I just played this song over and over today. Its taken me a good 12 years to take to WMS. I saw the tour about 3 places when it came out,but just happened to pop this song in the other day and like someone just said,"Its like a bullet to the head". Great song.
