SHE WHISPERS
"PLEASE REMEMBER ME
WHEN I AM GONE FROM HERE"
SHE WHISPERS
"PLEASE REMEMBER ME
BUT NOT WITH TEARS...
REMEMBER I WAS ALWAYS TRUE
REMEMBER THAT I ALWAYS TRIED
REMEMBER I LOVED ONLY YOU
REMEMBER ME AND SMILE...
FOR IT'S BETTER TO FORGET
THAN TO REMEMBER ME
AND CRY"
"REMEMBER I WAS ALWAYS TRUE
REMEMBER THAT I ALWAYS TRIED
REMEMBER I LOVED ONLY YOU
REMEMBER ME AND SMILE...
FOR IT'S BETTER TO FORGET
THAN TO REMEMBER ME
AND CRY... "
"PLEASE REMEMBER ME
WHEN I AM GONE FROM HERE"
SHE WHISPERS
"PLEASE REMEMBER ME
BUT NOT WITH TEARS...
REMEMBER I WAS ALWAYS TRUE
REMEMBER THAT I ALWAYS TRIED
REMEMBER I LOVED ONLY YOU
REMEMBER ME AND SMILE...

This song lyrics are inspired by a poem (actually, it's like a Robert Smith commentary on the poem): "Remember" by Christina Georgina Rossetti
See, e.g., http://www.englishverse.com/poems/remember
So, the "she" that the lyrics mention is the poetess. What the poem says is what the song says as well: when one is about to die and knows to leave beloved one behind, the last wish is not to bind her/him with painful memory: either it's a happy memory, or oblivion is preferable.
Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.
So, bewitched2982 got the spirit exactly right :-)
This song says how I feel about being remembered when I die. I don't want people to be sad when they think about me, I want them to have happy thoughts.
Well the song was supposed to be about the death of a woman. There are rumors that Smith wanted to sound like a dead woman when singing but he didn't really succed.
To me this song is an ex-lover wanting the other person to remember them as the opposite of what they were. The ex-lover did exactly the opposite of how he or she wants to be remembered - never true, never tried and never really loved the other person
I love this song so much, kinda sounds like a suicide note from a woman to her lover.
This song, while short and simple, has the deapest meaning of any of their songs. It sends shivers down my spine.
Oh and btw, does anybody know the meaning behind the title of this song?
