"Don't look don't look," the shadows breathe,
Whispering me away from you.
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep,
You know that you will always lose
This trembling, adored, tousled bird-mad girl."
But every night I burn,
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn,
Every night I fall again
"Oh don't talk of love," the shadows purr,
Murmuring me away from you.
"Don't talk of worlds that never were;
The end is all that's ever true.
There's nothing you can ever say,
Nothing you can ever do."
Still every night I burn,
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn,
Every night the dream's the same
Every night I burn,
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn,
Waiting for the world to end
"Just paint your face," the shadows smile,
Slipping me away from you.
"Oh, it doesn't matter how you hide,
Find you if we're wanting to.
So, slide back down and close your eyes,
Sleep a while, you must be tired."
But every night I burn,
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn,
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn,
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn,
Dream the crow black dream
Dream the crow black dream.
Whispering me away from you.
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep,
You know that you will always lose
This trembling, adored, tousled bird-mad girl."
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn,
Every night I fall again
Murmuring me away from you.
"Don't talk of worlds that never were;
The end is all that's ever true.
There's nothing you can ever say,
Nothing you can ever do."
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn,
Every night the dream's the same
Every night I burn,
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn,
Waiting for the world to end
Slipping me away from you.
"Oh, it doesn't matter how you hide,
Find you if we're wanting to.
So, slide back down and close your eyes,
Sleep a while, you must be tired."
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn,
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn,
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn,
Dream the crow black dream

The song was written specifically for the movie. Robert Smith actually read The Crow comic books while he was penning it. There are lines taken from the comic that are not distinctly mentioned in the movie:
scream the animal scream
and...
dream the crow black dream
It's quite literally about Eric Draven of the comic books, and I think it's quite commendable that The Cure chose to use the actual comic material in writing it. But generally, I see this song as one as despair. There is no hope glimmering through these lines, it just represents a miserable existence thrust upon the subject of the song. It's loneliness, it's pain, it's fury. No wonder it suits The Crow so perfectly.
I love this song.... It has a lot of meaning to me and the things that I like about the movie. It can't really apply to anything else in my opinion....

This song is very powerful. I listen to this song constantly and it is this song that got me listening to The Cure. They rock. I just need to get an album of theirs.....
i am also obsessed with "The Crow", some interesting facts about this song: If you ever read the original James O'Barr graphic novel, you see some things taken directly from the comic and quoted in this song. For example, there is one part in the comic, where Eric tells the crow "i used to wake up at night just to watch her sleep", hence--
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep You know that you will always lose
Another example would be a part where Eric is flashing back to the murder, and the crow says "don't look boy" Hence:
"Don't look don't look" the shadows breathe Whispering me away from you"
yeah, but anyhow, i think this is the best song on the CD. if you want to check out some music that actually inspired the James O'Barr comic, he realesed a collection of it on a CD entitled "Trust Obey: Fear and Bullets". I was lucky enough to find this, and it is truly amazing, any die hard Crow fan would truly enjoy it.
Just a little trivia tidbit I thought I would add for those who don't know (probably alot of you). The Crow was a comic book before it was a movie. In one of the comics there is a reference to the song "The Hanging Garden" by the Cure. So it was a given that the Cure were going to be on the soundtrack or at least referenced in the movie. By the way, the part in the movie where Burn starts to play is awesome, they picked the most emotional part they could and it makes me cry every time. Oh yeah I almost forgot to tell you, SC, the comic book is a series and you can find them in almost any good indie comic book store.

I love this song (like I love all The Cure's stuff), but I've never seen Crow. Since all of you guys seem to like it so much, maybe I'll watch it..!
