Doorman's Placebo Lyrics
Chances are you've heard this
But your headphones mute your equilibrium
Hearing tests the mattress hit the mistress fooled
But nothing ever felt this good
Wake you up and shake you
But your motor skills still speak in slurs
Court jester don't kill the humor x 2
Chances are you've curved this
The volume of the speakers must be proud
Don't change your tune
A princess' work is never done
In the bed and breakfast beck and call
Wake you up and shake you
But your motor skills still speak in slurs
Court jester don't kill the humor x 2
Eeyor chase your own x 2
Court jester don't kill the humor x 2
Brown shirt italian cut
Goose step and call our bluff
Will your ears ring the tetinitus chorus goes
Will the decibels work as bifocals
x 2
Chances are you've heard this
Chances are you've curved this again
Don't change your tune
In hearing tests again
Court jester don't kill the humor x 3
Eeyor chase your own x 2
Court jester don't kill the humor
Brown shirt italian cut
Goose step and call our bluff
Will your ears ring the tetinitus chorus goes
Will the decibels work as bifocals
x 2

great song, great song.
yea...this song is frikcin' great, too bad they didnt include it on in/casino/out.......ATDI rule
I personally believe that this is one of the few ATDI songs about a romantic relationship. With allusions and comparisons to princesses, matresses, Italian shirts, etc., I can't help but think Cedric is singing about a particular girl here. Seems to have a theme of hopeless devotion with a tinge of jealousy, mostly because of... "Eeyor chase your own" -- I hope everyone here knows the significance of 'Eeyor' in folklore/fairytales.
And:
"A princess' work is never done In the bed and breakfast beck and call"
Here, I get the sense that she's demanding and maybe a bit spoiled, but he's willing to do anything.
There are other hints to a relationship in this song, including the title, but I am way too tired to explain them (it's 4 am).
What the hell is a court jester? I'm pretty sure it's "cry jester" or "crying jester". Plus you made a bunch of other mistakes.
I think this is about a rich man having anffair with a girl working at the hotel he is staying with. The girl falls in love and tries to ruin the rich man's marriage or threatens to...he laughs it off and says no one will believe you....and the girl is seconded guessing why she even thought it would work and all the emotions that go through you when you learn you were used.
Paraless you seriously have never heard of a court jester? A court jester is, you know, the jester of a king's court. You almost never hear the word "jester" without the word "court" in front of it.
BTW its "cursed" not "curved". curved doesnt even make sense.
One of my favorite songs ever, period. Neverminding the fact that ATDI songs commonly have multiple levels of meaning, or no singular meaning at all this is my interpretation...
To me it's a song about not knowing how to, or maybe not wanting to, interact with or be a part of the "real" world, human drama. Drowning out real life with some substitute, in the song it's music, but I feel the repeated references to headphones, speakers, decibals, etc. is a metaphor for whatever is your distraction (drugs, sex, art, games) positive/negative, whatever you use to get away.
It's about knowing you should give a damn, or wanting to, but not being able to. It's about willful distraction.
Well, that's not very satisfactory, but I can't express it any better right now.
