Friday I'm in Love Lyrics
It's about being in love at this exact moment, and nothing else matters. Who cares if the rest of my week, or month, or life, is awful because I'm happy and in love right now.
I agree. that's what I understand too.

its about waiting and waiting for friday to come... the rest of the week doesn't even matter.

The song is about a late night hook up. You nailed it same as he nailed her. The "hopeless romantics" haven't ever had the opportunity, and that's why they get so upset about people calling a spade a spade.

Oral sex? Come on... it's the Cure. They're much more romantic than that, I think.
The last stanza sounds like it's describing a night at an amusement park or something. "Dressed up to the eyes," shows that she's... well... dressed up. That probably means that they're out. "To see your shoes and your spirits rise." Shoes rising. That could mean that she's jumping. Or it could be an amusement park ride. "And just smiling at the sound." Sound, eh? Amusement parks do tend to be noisy. "And as sleek as a shriek." Shriek. Getting the point? "Spinning round and round." This one's pretty obvious. "Always take a big bite." Cotton candy. Yum.
I like to interpret this in the same way that rockorager did, where it's a relationship where most of the time, it doesn't appear to be all that great on the surface, but every now and then, there's a happy time, represented by "Friday" in this song, when he can really appreciate how much he loves her.
You are way overcomplicating a song about a guy who has an easy fuck. You know that, right?

@myncknm “Dressed up to the eyes, such wonderful surprise to see your shoes & your spirits rise.” is just about someone dressed up, lookin good & feelin good. To see her shoes rise=heels or platforms. It’s a wonderful surprise to see her dressed up with high spirits.

What I think about when I hear this song is something like this:
You have a crush on a girl (or a boy) and you can't wait to see them again. But you are always working on weekdays and you don't have the nerves to call them after work. So you are just waiting for Friday so you can get drunk and brave enough to go talk to her, and hopefully get closer than just talking.
It's probably not what Robert Smith had in mind but it's how I connect it.
Quit being an EMO.

lol i was listening to this song when my mom started singing to it not knowing who it was... then i played her like 7 other cure songs and she ended up stealing one of their cds from me...
I disagree intoodeep. I think what is going on is he is being hurt by a girl quite a bit "throughout the week"...not so much literally but more in a sense that even though it is the majority of the time, when it comes down to it...he loves her. He is saying that whatever they went throught he puts behind him cause "it's Friday and I'm in love!"
come on guys...robert smith is a lyrical genius, there is definately a much deeper meaning to this song that no one will ever understand. thats the beauty about the cure, there is so much thought into every song...i feel like it is about a girl (Friday) and the other days of the week are just random other names of girls all of whom don't mean anything to him because he is so deeply lost in this one girl...
You sound like a guy. You know it's about a eff friend right?

In an interview, Robert Smith himself said that this song was an out and out love song... but I think the lyrics should explain this themselves. Who got the idea that it was about a drug addiction?
People always try to make every song about drugs, for some strange reason.

This song came out when i was in II standard so like alot of the songs of the last 80's & early 90's, i have childhood attachments to it. This is such a super fun song, i dont care if it's about sex or drugs, i love it!! It's one of the most fun videos to watch! Fully grown men running around, acting all silly as if they're having the best food fight of their lives!! Priceless!! I have to admit though, this is the only Cure song i know.hehe.
Whatever it's about - for an upbeaty song by The Cure - its bloody fantastic :)
