Harold and Joe Lyrics
Nothing ever gets in my way
Nothing ever gets on my mind
Nothing ever makes me stop to think about
Nothing of the kind
Nothing ever loses me sleep
Nothing ever wins my heart
Nothing ever makes me want to sing along
And nothing makes me want to start
If I'm falling down a mountain
Then I pick myself up
If I crash into an iceberg
I don't give a frightful look around..
If I am burning then I put myself out
I'm so completely full
I scare the world
Oh all the world
All inside out
Just look around...
Nothing ever puts me out
Nothing ever pulls me in
Nothing ever makes me want to jump
And nothing makes me want to begin
Nothing ever gets me down
Nothing ever gets me uptight
And nothing ever makes me run around
And nothing makes me feel I might
If I'm hanging from a peach tree
Then I cut myself down
And if I look into the sun
I just turn up the sound
And if I swallow deathcap loverooms
Then I spit them right out
I'm so completely full
I scare the world
Yeah all the world
Inside out
Nothing ever gets in my way
Nothing ever gets on my mind
Nothing ever makes me stop to think about
Nothing of the kind
Harold and Joe
Go go go!!!
Yeah...
Sing birds sing...
Nothing ever gets on my mind
Nothing ever makes me stop to think about
Nothing of the kind
Nothing ever loses me sleep
Nothing ever wins my heart
Nothing ever makes me want to sing along

If I crash into an iceberg

This is one of my favorite Cure songs ever. Definitely in the top 10, I think it's amazing, I'm surprised more people haven't commented. I think it was criminally wasted by just being a B-side, it should have been the A-side rather than "Never Enough", a good song but nothing compared to this.
I haven't really thought about the lyrics of this one much, I see at as quite a straightforward, sarcastic, cynical song, about someone being a miserable bastard but being proud of it. According to the 'Join the Dots' booklet, Harold and Joe are none other than the characters of Harold Bishop and Joe Mangel from the Australian soap Neighbours (which is popular in the UK), Simon came up with that title because he came up with the song's music and he happened to be watching Neighbours at the time, so Robert Smith kept the title for a laugh...
My favorite memory of this song is one night I had in a Goth club years back when it was the late hours and the place was near deserted as most people had gone home... and the DJs played this song last. The only time I've ever heard it in a club; and as my favorite 'obscure' Cure song I was thrilled to hear it and I had a great dance to it, I was in my element on the dancefloor, one of my most memorable clubbing moments ever.
"who are "harold and joe"? Robert Smith: "Creatures in Simon's mind!" simple as really. i think that it's like, don't let anything get to you, just relax and take it easy... well thats the feeling i get from the sound of the song... but then again, i said do the hansa was hamsters on helium 0_0
I love this. Roberts voice is so sexy. I think this is kind of forgotten, because it's on join the dots and I think that it's a little harder to kind of love all the songs on join the dots, love them like the "hits". Just because they are so many.. If you're a cure-newbie, then it'll take a while to get to the join the dots (you have to listen to all the other great songs first).
Something like that. Well, I don't have much to say about the lyrics, not that many cryptical things in it. I love it, the music, the sarcastic lyrics (the nothing ever-parts is fun to sing) and Roberts voice.. :D
again, i think Harold is another use for t heroin. anything with an H usually refers to heroin. the song is sung like in a mono tone like he's on the nod, and doing heroin makes you feel like you don't care about anything. nothing ever get me down nothing ever gets in my way nothing ever gets in my mind
just another heroin experience used as inspiration for a song. i used to just fix and listen to this song and whistle like at the end. sorry
@MrPinkEyez I can see the connotation with the "H" in the name but the song seems a little too upbeat to be about heroin.\r\n\r\nI will say that the first time I heard H&J was when my buddy gave it to me on a mixtape he made for rolling (doing X/ecstasy). It had a bunch of trip-hop, ambient and chill tunes so we\'d listen to it when we came down.\r\n\r\nAnd then when I saw this tidbit from the Never Enough single wiki - "Harold and Joe" was described by Chris Ott of Pitchfork as a "phenomenally adorable ecstasy tribute."\r\n\r\nThis is...

Disintegration was Robert Smith\'s big LSD album and then the whole "Summer Of Love" was in full bloom soon after in the UK.\r\n\r\nSounds to me like Robert got a hold of some really great pills from Amsterdam and got instantly inspired.\r\n\r\nSuch a great song and to me is just about feeling so good nothing can bring you down, not bravado but simpatico.
I think this song is about someone who is tripped up by someone else, but they are having trouble admitting it. He doesn't want to admit that someone else has the power to – is – taking over his world. It's love and it's fantastic, but brings with it feelings and changes to the status quo of things and that, to the singer is scary/daunting, thus the need to insist everything is fine "nothing ever loses me sleep," etc. etc. I also thought I heard that "Harold and Joe" was an old TV show in the UK; if that's the case, maybe the singer in the song is going through the above, but zoning out to the "Harold & Joe" television show, thereby feeding his pretense everything is fine.
