I'm running out of time
I'm out of step and
Closing down and
Never sleep for wanting hours
The empty hours of greed
And uselessly
Always the need
To feel again the real belief
Of something more than mockery
If only I could
Fill my heart with love
I'm out of step and
Closing down and
Never sleep for wanting hours
The empty hours of greed
And uselessly
Always the need
To feel again the real belief
Of something more than mockery
If only I could
Fill my heart with love

The whole album of Disengration is genius. This album got me into The Cure about 3 years ago, and these guys are brilliant. I was always anti-Cure since I was a die-hard Smiths fan (I guess Morrissy hates Robert Smith and vice-versa). While The Smiths remain my fav band forever, The Cure are great as well. Did I already say I LOVE this album? It is truly indispensable.
It's SO genius. Robert Smith allegedly wrote this entire album locked away in his home while tripping on LSD. (Gah! I've taken acid before, and this album's mood is in NO WAY the kind of thing you want when you're tripping! Talk about inviting a really bad trip there. Ick.)

It never occurred to me before that people have a hard time liking both groups at the same time. I got into them around 1992; all of my friends were into both of them equally, so I never knew any bias.

And so, all I hear is I'm a poser. These post punk bands are all to be loved and revered. You posers really don't get it

a very cool song. Its so atmospheric and carries you off to another place...i just luv songs that do that.
i love how long the song is and how short the vocals are. this must be my favourite cure song, i think. it's lovely.
this song is so beautiful.
"if only i could fill my heart with love" - i do feel this way...a lot.
Running out time, getting older, don't fit in, don't sleep, and closing down or withdrawing from the world...hoping to feel once more a sense of love and be happy again.
Yeah, pretty much sums up the sadness of life. One of my favorite songs ever...
What a beautiful song. Not just the words but the music as well. AHHHH memories!
Yes the whole album is absolutely brilliant. Actually it was the first CD I bought when I got a CD player, abandoning vinyl.
@ rahtwinkle: you are not alone.
closing down from love. he wants that feeling back, but her is running old and the worry of never finding it keeps him awake.
The song is about coming to the end of self-preoccupation then justifying the self-same with self-absorption.
See how it builds extravagantly and fills and explores the definitive. All three instruments do the same thing at different times. Instruments are expressed definitively and independently.
Exuberant and exhaustive song. The song is about the meaninglessness of self examination and the absorption it incurs.
The drums never cease.
They never change.
They are frantic and searching and then they die.
That's because the drums were on machine
