Bad Light Lyrics
never forever
what i think is true
never forever
what i hope to do
never forever
what i got from you
never forever
and all that sun makes so much shine
how this is done like so much science
can't be explained through common sense
takes a firm background in remembering
and it takes some math
and there's so much more
it's so hard to read in bad light
it's so hard to read in bad light
it's so hard to see in bad light
it's so hard to see in bad light
what i think is true
never forever
what i hope to do
never forever
what i got from you
never forever
how this is done like so much science
can't be explained through common sense
takes a firm background in remembering
and there's so much more
it's so hard to read in bad light
it's so hard to read in bad light
it's so hard to see in bad light
it's so hard to see in bad light

I think this song is sort of about misinterpretation. And how you need to be informed, and "reading in good light" and understanding things. Everything you think and do and the whole world and how it words, things like the sun shining... how can it be explained? Just common sense won't cut it, you have to learn. "Takes a firm background in remembering, and it takes some math, and there's so much more", you have to know what you're talking about before you just start talking. And it's hard to think about things when you don't know enough, but it's hard to learn. So hard to see in bad light...
second that opinion narsil
it sounds so much like never forever instead of forget, and the last line sounds more like in bad light. maybe part of the meaning in the last few lines has to do with it's hard enough understanding nevermind in bad light, in all the confusion. great explanation narsil.
i definitley agree with the never forever. For sure.
reminds me of the lines in car: "take the world apart and figure out how it works. don't let me know what you find out."
i interpret this as him seeing some true practically behind science. figuring it out, in this case light, takes all this work and science and thought. but he already knows how it works and it's affect on him. if there's bad (no) light, he can't read.
i like narsil's interpretation, too. it's quite the opposite but works just as well, i think. that's the beauty in vague lyrics like many of built to spill's; people can get what they want from them and make them personal.
when i downloaded this song, it said the artists were built to spill and pinback, is that true? or is this just bts, cause pinback is pretty awesome, and built to spill is too, and i didnt even think they were associated with each other with bts coming out of seattle and on up records and pinback from san diego and on touch and go i think.
...I think I got that same version. Pinback/Built to Spill - Bad Light. Seems to be Built to Spill only. This IS a great song, but I think that if Built to Spill and Pinback were to get together, the product would make my whole body orgasm.
song owns.
I think "Never forever" has to do with things that do not last forever. Your beliefs, your hopes and your personal relationships. And the world is so complex and amazing, that we'll never understand it, and throughout our lives we'll learn and never know anything clearly. We can't live and learn fully because of the bad light = "all that sun" = the worlds beauty. This of course only holds, if you are convinced that "bad light" is an ironic metaphor that isn't negative at all.
