I think maybe hes talking about he was with someone and she wanted him to be a different person that he wasnt ready to be yet and now hes finally made it and he wants to continue being friends

this is the cynical way i looked at relationships at one point of my life....ok, so i'm still there and begging for someone to change it :P
The song actually was written by Mark Wilkerson (lead singer, song writer & rythm guitar) and it is about his relationship with his parents. They didn't approve of his career choice and weren't close for years because of it. But now they are together again and are happy for his success. I love this song. The lyrics have a different meaning to me. When I first heard this song I too was having a difference of Opinion like Mark was. Accept that it was with my spouse not parents like in Mark's (the song writers) case. To me it was about him wanting to change careers and that meant changing our whole lives. For him it was a life change career wise. Which meant leaving everything behind. Including our family, friends, home, ect. to the unknown. Well I could understand some of his reason but felt well what about me......What about my dreams, my life, my home, my business. Well our Difference of Opinion almost ruin us and we were about to split up over it but then we worked things out. But it was at a price. Now I sit and listen to another song by Course of Nature "Could I've Been" and relate some more..........
