Snakepit Lyrics

Well we're a mile under the ground
And I'm thinking that it's Christmas
And I'm kissing you hard
Like I've got very important business
And no-one knows
And no-one sees us
Because they're drinking themselves senseless

And I'm writhing
And I'm writhing
And I'm writhing in the snakepit
Well I'm out in a car
And it's just full of stupid girls

And I've forgotten how to speak
And I just can't remember a word
And my eyes feel like they're bursting
And they're splitting like plums

And I'm writhing
And I'm writhing
And I'm writhing in the snakepit

Cover art for Snakepit lyrics by Cure, The

Robert Smith has said in an interview that this is about an experience he had at a club or bar of sorts where a bunch of random girls started hitting on him, and how it made him feel horrible because to him they were all dumb with no depth or personality.

I can't find the interview right now but I'll update this when I find it

I'm not sure what the meaning of this song is but I'm inclined to think Robert Smith and the boys were pretty high when they wrote and/or recorded this. I always thought it had something to do with some kind of drug experience or other. The lyrics imply to me that he's too high to deal the people he was around at the time. Plus if you listen to the second verse carefully it sounds like it's being sung by someone who's extremely high and had a bit to drink to boot. Maybe he had a bad drug experience with his girlfriend and her friends.
