I've been around the world I take credit for the things I've done.
I've done a lot of things and I just turned 21.
They tied me up put red tape around my hands.
I got caught in the web cause I didn't stand a chance.
I can't control the state I'm in - Go back back in line and repeat it again x 2.
I said "Please Mr Doctor" won't you cure my disease.
I got a sore throat and I got scrubs on my knees.
No matter what I do I can't get it straight.
I tried to sort things out but i'm still stuck in the state.
I can't control the state I'm in - Go back back in line and repeat it again x2.
I'm gonna lie I'm gonna cheat.
I'm gonna follow their lead then skip a beat.
I'm gonna lie I'm gonna cheat and if I don't do it I don't know what I will.
I'm gonna lie I'm gonna cheat.
I'm gonna follow their lead then skip a beat. I'm gonna lie I'm gonna cheat. I can't control the state I'm in - Go back back in line and repeat it again x 4.

haha this is a totally wicked song. the hives are definitely my favorite band. i don't really know what it means, but doesn't the part where the go "go back in line and repeat it again" sound like they're a bunch of pirates:)? all i can say is kudos

I think it's a commentary about the government--all the politicians are liars and cheaters, setting a poor example for everyone else. So, "I'm gonna lie, I'm gonna cheat. I'm gonna follow their lead..."

Awesome song. I'm not a huge fan of the Hives but I like this song kinda has a post-punkish sound

Gentle Hour

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
