Things get clear when I feel free
When whatever's next, comes easily
When gentle hands give life to me
When your eyes fill with tiny tears

When I'm this still you are my life (when I'm this still you are my life)
So at ease in the midnight sky (so at ease in the midnight sky)
But my insides will look like war (my insides will look like war)
Paralyzed except through my thought

So why so sad
You live and you love
So why so sad
Dependent on all above
Searching for the Dead Sea scrolls
So why, so why so sad

My smile as real as a hyena's (my smile as real as a hyena's)
Burns an expressway to my skull (burns an expressway to my skull)
But I'll stick myself together again
Spirit so low that I no longer pretend

So why so sad
You live and you love
So why so sad
Dependent on all above
Searching for the Dead Sea scrolls
So why, so why so sad

So why so sad
You live and you love
So why so sad
Dependent on all above
Searching for the Dead Sea scrolls
So why, so why so sad
So why, so why so sad
So why, so why so sad

This was released when I was in a bad relationship. It was kinda what i was doing, hiding emotions. 'My insides will look like war' was exactly how I was feeling, cos it was true I was that distraught. Also 'Paralysed except through my thought' I was doing nothign about this relationsship but in ym head I had loads of plans that I just darent pull off.

I think it's about natural melancholy versus the beauty of life. Sometimes happiness and calm posses more horror than the reality od despair. Also- a comforting hand makes our struggles smoother but it doesn't make us whole.

Some people can enjoy stillness, a midnight sky, the hands that give you life, the moments when your dears find their refuge in your arms, normal life. But some other people feel, just in these quiet moments, the restlessness that will forever accompany them like a neverending war. I believe this song can be appreciated only by people who have felt the same restlessness over a background of stillness.

The Avalanches remix of the song is aproximately thirty million times better than the original.

    Song Meaning

The Meaning Of The Song Is That.. As In The Video You Can See A War Going On While People Are Still Having A Good Time. So Its Saying And Meaning "If There Is A War Going On, Why Should People Stop What They like Doing". In The Video We Also See The Manics Playing While There Is A War Outside :)

"Nick, as always, gave me the lyrics and they had some sort of naivity in them. That's why I chose that Beach Boys-like vocals." (James, Guitar 02/01)

"I think it's very difficult to make a literal interpretation of the song 'So Why So Sad' in terms of a video. The song starts off very romantic and cheerful and pretty and ends being quite dark and I think the video was trying to show that, that it's that kind of end of the '60s flower power gone wrong and everything on the verge of huge decay. Y'know, that people don't realise what's going on. The video is the beautiful people basically, the Californian beautiful people, y'know there's an army invasion going on but they're more interested in their suntans. So it does fit the song, but like I said it's not exactly a literal, a literal interpretation." (Nicky, thebaseonline.co.uk 02/01)

Very average song...one of their worst singles ever. I deleted this from my custom 'Know Your Enemy' playlist

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
