In Your House Lyrics
I play at night in your house
I live another life
Pretending to swim
In your house
I change the time in your house
The hours I take
Go so slow...
I hear no sound in your house
Silence
In the empty rooms
I drown at night in your house
Pretending to swim...
I live another life
Pretending to swim
In your house
The hours I take
Go so slow...
Silence
In the empty rooms
Pretending to swim...

This is spooky. For me this is the perspective of a ghost haunting the house of someone they knew, perhaps an ex lover. "I play at night in your house, I live another life" - i.e. the afterlife "I change the time in your house" - like a poltergeist messing around with the clocks, also links back to the idea of "playing" around at night - the ghost is messing around. The scariest bit of all: "I hear no sound in your house
Silence In the empty rooms" = although people are living in the house the ghost can't see hear or interact with the living as it's stuck in a dark parallel universe / in limbo. The "pretending to swim" bit I just can't put my finger on. Perhaps I am just chatting utter breeze.
maybe he's together with his girl at night, and still pretends to love her although he feels nothing for her anymore.
Wow! This song is so cool. Love the bass.
i think this is about pretending to like someone you go to her/his house and pretend to go with the flow of being in a relationship (maybe) then, the night comes and you think about what are you doing with your life with someone you don't like
there's a cosmical distance between you two that the rooms seems imense and you drow on the pain of not getting out of all of this
my favorite song on seventeen seconds. followed by a forest.
i think it's about a relationship that's sinking and he, for some reason, it's still pretending that everything's alright altough it's not. Something like that.
feeling uncomfortable in someone else's presence, but still always returning .....
It's about uncertainity in love, our knowledge that what we are doing is destroying our personal lives...you keep saying, "Oh, we'll just do this tour, go to America and then it'll be alright." But if it falls flat then you can be left with nothing and always be bitter about it. It can destroy your life.
that's what robert said about it
One of my favourite songs by this band..I get this feeling of two people in their own worlds, they are supposed to be close but there's this dense/muffled space in between.
Also it could also be a kind of projection; you project or imagine yourself in another person's house. You make time go slower so you can stay around for longer, you live 'another life' that isn't your own. A kind of playful childishness in "I play at night in your house." Pretending to swim could not only mean sinking in a relationship that is failing but keeping on the surface of things, keeping everything running smoothly, "playing" rather than "drowning" in the uncertainty/fear of strong emotion. Drowning seems to be inevitable though.
To me its like the feeling of being in someone elses house when you're a kid, especially if it was a place you'd rather be than your own. It reminds me of being at this girls house, she only lived with her mom and it was a big comfy house.. she's let us smoke weed and ciggerttes there and the place was always filled with food and drinks. Just a place you always wanted to be.
