Carry That Weight Lyrics

Boy, you're going to carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
I never give you my pillow
I only send you invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations I break down

The Beatles were not a "1960's pop group"

Then what were they?

Philosopher Poets perhaps… LOL

You're all so close. In a radio interview last year it was revealed that this song is about John's breakdown in a professional relationship with his... accountant! Slightly adapted to sound like a romance (reference to pillow) it takes a different direction. But initially John's accountant being non communicative was the fuel for the lyrics. Once you know this it makes you smile instead of feeling sad. Go on give it another listen.

Am I the only one who thinks this would have made a good song on its own?

This song would've been good on its own but it's even better right after the also awesome "golden slumbers"

To me, the "I never give you my pillow / I only give you my invitation / and in the middle of the celebrations / I break down" is the saddest, loneliest line. It's being in the middle of what should be the happiest time, a time of success and celebration, and being about as far away from all of that as you could possibly be because of the emotional distance between you and the one person you want close to you.

(this is part of a medley on Abbey Road) the I never give you..... couplets are about getting very close to a relationship with someone where there is a mutual feeling, but never managing to actually take the last step. the carry that weight bit is about having to deal with difficult things that dont go away quickly, but the idea of carrying them...you keep going. abbey road is one of the best albums ever.

Golden Slumbers Kiss Your Eyes

GOLDEN slumbers kiss your eyes, Smiles awake you when you rise. Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby; Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Care is heavy, therefore sleep you; You are care, and care must keep you. Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby; Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Thomas Dekker - 17th Century

PS: Kiss off, McCartney!

I didn't think "Rock them" was a phrase used in the 17th century???
