Are You Experienced? (Jimi Hendrix cover) Lyrics
If you could just get your mind together
and come along with me
hold hands
watch the sunrise
from the bottom of the sea
but first, are u experienced?
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
I know, I know
you'll probably scream and cry
your little world won't let you go
to who in your world
are you trying to prove
that you're made out of gold
can't be sold
but first, are u experienced?
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
let me prove it to you
Beautiful mutants I can hear in the distance
I think they're calling my name
maybe you can't hear them
but you will
if you take hold of my hand
but first, are u experienced?
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
Oh, not necessarily beautiful
but mutated!
and come along with me
hold hands
watch the sunrise
from the bottom of the sea
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
you'll probably scream and cry
your little world won't let you go
to who in your world
are you trying to prove
that you're made out of gold
can't be sold
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
let me prove it to you
I think they're calling my name
maybe you can't hear them
but you will
if you take hold of my hand
Well, have u ever been experienced?
Well-ll, I have, I have
but mutated!

My favorite cover of theirs, easily.
Their version of the song is to show that the spirit of the sixties has died and that with it things like peace, love and revolution has become a passing fad. But DEVO is affected by it still and attempts to affect others with the spirit. The spirit in the song is first represented by a peace symbol and then again by a concert in vein of an old Hendrix set.

I heard somewhere that they were inspired to do this song when Mark cleaned out a closet of his filled with 60's memorabilia. I've also heard that they were having some troubles with their label, and to get back at them, they did a cover song of one of their sacred cow songs. Which is right? Who knows.
