Push & Pull Lyrics

Mr. Nothing's got a lot
He's got a lot to say
He's good at being what he's not
Gives nothing away
Another day goes on by
And he never speaks his heart
He takes his chance with what he's got
It's too late now to stop

You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin'
You give and you take and take what you got
Round and round 'till it breaks and
You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin' into your lie

Mr. Nothing is late
He's running out of time
He questions whether chance or fate will ever show a sign
Looks to the sky above
For a glimpse of what it means
And never never never make
Make no sense to him

You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin'
You give and you take and take what you got
Round and round 'till it breaks and
You push and you pull and struggle with the knot
It's tying you up while you're fadin' into your lie

You push and you pull it

for me, 'Mr. Nothing' is a person who hides his true self in front of others ("Gives nothing away; Another day goes on by ; And he never speaks his heart ")...He feels he loses himself in this role he's playing, he cannot rearrange what he did/what he's faking, he drowns in desperation and loneliness ("It's too late now to stop", "He's running out of time ; He questions whether chance or fate will ever show a sign") In the chorus Nikka describes this. 'Mr. nothing' wants to be able to handle his life, wants to know what life is all about, if it's worth living...he searches for answers:"Looks to the sky above For a glimpse of what it means And never never never make Make no sense to him" Maybe he looks for someone he can show his true self to,too, but he didnt find this person til now. Maybe Nikka wants to tell him with the chorus that she understands why he's faking.

wow... how do get lucky enough to find a person with this kind of insight... I think that an amazing interpretation... very true .And ,yes the song fit nicely with the movie,I disagree about the drugs, drugs may have been involved but not the issue there .... I think Agatha,u hit this nail on the head

If Someone could tell me another analization of this song, i would be so happy...I'm trying to figure out what exactly she is talking about here....Is this a relationship gone wrong? or Does this Mr. Nothing have a drug problem...I think it is the drug thing honestly but i'm not sure...the knot is his problem and It bother's their relationship maybe....Maybe she is seeing this guy and she has realized he has a problem and she feels she can't help him. But if there is someone out there that has a better clue...please Share.

I don't think this is about a relationship. I think she's just talking about a guy who makes people believe he's all that, but actually he's "Mr. Nothing". And I think people are figuring out he's nothing, so "he's running out of time". Maybe I'm totally wrong... could be. So please, people, POST YOUR OPINION.

'Mr. Nothing' to me is someone who puts up a front of being all together. Underneath he just wants to be him and it's a struggle everyday to be who everyone thinks he is, but he realized that one day he will have to give up. He pretends so much that he is beginning to forget himself and lose everything he has fought for and still fights for.

I agree with Agatha. I love this song. I thought it went so well on the Blow soundtrack. It fit the theme of the movie.

I saw a great French movie recently called Time Out. (L'emploi du temps - directed by Laurent Cantet.) The main character personifies Mr. Nothing to a T, so much so, that the song could have been written with this movie in mind. Check it out.

Its "And now or never, never made made more sense to him"

That section is SO important to the song. Its almost as if Mr.Nothing is seeing that if he doesn't fix himself and stop faking it, he may never have the chance to become whole and REAL again.

This song touched my heart so deeply. The knot for me is the entire situation. It is symbolic of the chaos his life has turned into. To undo a knot you can't push and pull, you have to sit and carefully untangle it. He wants to get rid of all the chaos, but he isn't going about it the correct way.
