Ramblin' Boy Lyrics

He was a man and a friend always.
He stuck with me in the bad old days.
He never cared if I had no dough,
We rambled round in the rain and snow.

So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.
So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.

In Tulsa town we chanced to stray,
We thought we'd try to work one day.
The boss said he had room for one,
Said my old pal we'd rather bum.

So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.
So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.

Late one night in a jungle camp,
The weather it was cold and damp.
He got the chills and he got 'em bad.
Try took the only friend I had.

So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.
So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.

He left here to ramble on,
My rambling pal is dead and gone.
If when we die we go somewhere,
I bet you a dollar that he's rambling there.

So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.
So here's to you my Rambling Boy,
May all your rambling bring you joy.

Cover art for Ramblin' Boy lyrics by Tom Paxton

In the old times there were different types of train riders .

The Hobos were traveling workers. A term which came into use after the Civil Way, referring to the "Homeward Bound", HoBo.....They worked at building bridges and roads , picked fruit and crops and many other jobs They were wandering workers

Next came the tramps who dreamed and wandered. They were more the people who did not fit in and stayed away from society. They were harmless souls .

Then came the Bums and yeggs . These were the ones the did not want to work and many were involved in criminal activity. Safe crackers Robbers and beggars were all a part of this world ,

These are the ones that the Big Rock Candy Mountain is about not the Hobos

Some of the slang words of the song is right from the Yeggs secret language. Yes they had there own words that they used .
