Cheap Wine Lyrics

Once I smoked a Danneman cigar
Drove a foreign car
Baby that was years ago
I left it all behind
Had a friend, I heard she died
On a needle she was crucified
Baby that was years ago
I left it all behind for my

Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on

I don't mind takin' charity
From those that I despise
Baby i don't need your love
I don't need your love
Baby you can shout at me
But you can't meet my eyes
I don't really need your love
I don't need your love, I got my

Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on, come-on

Sitting on the beach drinkin' rocket fuels Oh Yeah!
Spent the whole night breakin' all the rules Oh Yeah!
Mending every minute of the day before
Watching the ocean, watching the shore
Watching the sunrise, and thinkin' there could never be more
Never be more
Anytime you want to find me
I don't hve a telephone
I'm another world away
But I always feel at home, with my

Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on, come-on, come-on

Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Cheap wine and a three-day growth
Come-on, come-on, come-on, come-on, come-on
Cheap wine and a three-day growth...

When I was a kid I always thought it was "cheap wine and a female goat". And people wonder why I've turned out the way I have. g

Reflective thoughts of someone who has lived wild and hedonist younger years, lost people and now not requiring charity or pity to now live in the here and now. My anthem for now having hit my 60's

Lol when I was little I always thought it was fried egg roll or something :P

I love this song. I think its about someone leaving behind all the things that never really mattered that much and just living for what he cares about. He doesnt care for love, telephones foreign cars or danneman cigars anymore. He just wants his cheap wine, 3 day growth and just to sit about doing what he enjoys. Guess thats pretty obvious but its an awesome song

I love this song. It's amazing. I'm surprised to see that it's still being commented (as of five months ago), seeing as it was released in 1980. Well done.

And I agree. It's about being happy with what you have. He's happy, and all he has is a bit of alcohol and three days worth of stuble. Haha. It's about living by your own rules, doing everything your way. Whatever makes you happy :)

Sonofagunzel - think you are onto somethign there. I reckon its about a homeless person, who as you say "had everything" and lost it. Descends into alcohol abuse, and homelessness.

I wager you got it figured with that one.

I think that this is about a man who, prompted by the death of a friend from a drug overdose, decides to trade a high stress life of business success (danneman cigars and foreign cars) for a simpler life. Mending every minute of the day before (making up for wasted time), watchin the ocean watchin the shore watchin the sunrise and thinking there could never be more (he hadn't take the time in his previous life to enjoy it). Come on, come on, come on (he is encouraging us all to join him).

Taking charity from those he despises is collecting the dole from the government.
