Lay It All On Me Lyrics
Come on down crooked man,
Step on up broken man,
Well it's ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
Do you remember when we started?
You had a dream,
Now you never talk about it,
Your fame and riches were everything,
No matter what the cost,
Now you wish you hadn't blown it
Chorus
Well Lay it all on me,
yeah lay it all on me,
Come on down Crooked man,
Step on up, broken man,
well its ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
I came to see how you were doing,
its been a while,
looking back over your shoulder.
you were restless and you were wild,
always running away,
once was young now is older
Chorus
So come on down crooked man,
Step on up broken man,
Well its ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
Come on down baby
Ease your worried mind
Chorus
Lay it all on me
Lay it all on me
Lay it all on me yeah
Step on up broken man,
Well it's ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
You had a dream,
Now you never talk about it,
Your fame and riches were everything,
No matter what the cost,
Now you wish you hadn't blown it
Well Lay it all on me,
yeah lay it all on me,
Step on up, broken man,
well its ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
its been a while,
looking back over your shoulder.
you were restless and you were wild,
always running away,
once was young now is older
Step on up broken man,
Well its ok to cry troubled man,
Just ease your worried mind and rest a while.
Lay it all on me
Lay it all on me yeah

i dont really know what this song is about exactly, i just love it, the beat is really, really good, the lyrics are good, basically its a great song, my fave of lions.
Steve Gorman shared great insight on this song in his 2019 memoir, pages 338-339:
I remember reading (the) lyrics in the studio. I was moved, and I told (Chris Robinson) I was really surprised he had expressed that.
He said, "Yeah, I'm just picturing someone like, you know, my dad. Sitting there thinking, '****, I blew it!'"
I said, "Your dad? What are you talking about? You're writing this to yourself."
He looked at the lyrics again, thought about it for a few seconds, and said, "Oh yeah ... maybe."
This song is very personal to me in that in could have been about me. But Gorman is spot on when he says it's not a son talking to a a father but a young me consoling the old me on where my life gone. But most importantly it's about getting to the place where your able to forgive yourself for, what are now, such obvious lapses in judgment bought about by a live lived to fast. What might seem like regret is the opposite. It a piece of mind you can only achieve once you " step on up" and take full responsibility for one's life choises. Lay it all on me.
