Summer Turns To High Lyrics
Mercury is rising still, turn the fan on high
I won't step on my own shadow, no one wants to cry
Someone put a pox on me, I'll spit in their eye
Summer turns to high
With my bedsheet cape and sandals
Circle citronella candles
Summer's here, the light is raising, hopes and dragonflies
If those hopes are overshadowed
Cotton candy, caramel apple
Summer turns to high
Summer turns to high
Summer turns to high
Summer high
After wine and nectarines the fireflies and time move
Like syrup through the evening with a sweet resign
I won't pine for what could have been - I'm preoccupied!
Summer turns to high

As a slow motion bridge from Imitation to Chorus and containing the word “high” again paired with the theme summer, there probably isn’t much extra to read into this song. The band wanted a relaxed recording process and a warm body of songs. The visual cues are sweet and natural. The song perfectly fits inside the album like the spleen you rarely think about. The beginning seems like a child avoiding shadow stepping (and chickenpox?) but soon there is drinking involved. Summer brings us back to childhood like a snowball fight or a jump in some leaves. Don’t think too much here. Get your b-side ears on. It’s slow and pretty.
