You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let it show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
(Can't remember when I last saw you laughing)
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let it show
Your true colors
True colors
True colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people

It actually is for gay justice. Or courage in general.
She's not Lady Gaga and it was not written in honor of homosexuality. And what is "gay justice." I'll get with God on it and see what He says. The song is about ANY inner beauty perhaps otherwise neglected or overlooked, be the person be gay, straight, black, white, fat, skinny, old, pretty, homely, etc. Contrary to popular opinion, sometimes songs are NOT about the push for gay "marriage." My cat's awfully cute. Feline Justice for all!
Are you even aware WHEN this song was written? The early/mid 80's was when Aids (1982) hit the airwaves, television sets, and family dinner tables. People were angry about Aids, scared to death of homosexuals, and NOBODY was even thinking about the concept of "gay marriage." Apartment owners were trying NOT to rent to anyone they suspected of being gay, bleach was being used to clean apartments/bathrooms that gays were suspected of using, and the overall atmosphere was anything but pro "gay marriage." Cyndi Lauper was always on the front line of progressive change/trends, but even Cyndi did not foresee what would occur over the next two decades or so.
@Captainz Its not about gays, and Cyndi Lauper didnt even write this song,Billy Steinber gand Tom Kelly did, its written under the lyrics on this very page. <br /> The song clearly sounds like its about depression, his mum is depressed and hes trying to get her out of it.
