Baby's in Black Lyrics

Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh, what can I do?
She thinks of him and so she dresses in black
And though he'll never come back, she's dressed in black
Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh, what can I do?
I think of her, but she only thinks of him
And though it's only a whim, she thinks of him
Oh how long will it take
Until she sees the mistake she has made?
Dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black, and I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh what can I do?
She thinks of him and she dresses in black
And though he'll never come back, she's dressed in black
Oh dear, what can I do?
Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue
Tell me, oh what can I do?

I do think it is about Astrid Kirchher mourning for Stuart Sutcliffe but it's also John's inability to express his grief for his dead friend. John's way was to act tough and not talk about his feelings.

this song clearly states the desire of a man to a girl who's man died. (she thinks of him and so she dresses in black ) states it perfectly, the girl loved and thought about her ex, that's why she was wearing black.

this song is about wanting to get a girl who is already taken, and treated like shit by her boyfriend, but she does'nt know that there are other people out there

I think this song is about a guy being in love with a girl who is still mourning her past love, and it hurts because the guy is hurting for the girl, and wants to be with her, even though she obviously still loves the guy who broke her heart before.

I think the girl is in black because somebody died, perhaps her boyfriend or brother or whatever, and the singer is lamenting this because he loves her, but hse won't notice him.

I really like this song its constantly in my head

At first I thought the girl was satanic and "him" was Satan. But now I ag ree with Orion; it's someone mourning her old boyfriend, who died. Just a guess.

From what I've heard, this song is written about the Beatle's good friend Astrid Kirchher, after her boyfriend, and fifth Beatle, Stu Sutcliff died of a brain haemorrage.

I agree with Mind Gorilla's assessment. Astrid was a photographer at the time I believe...and she was blonde. I have no doubt that John was attracted to her.

I don't think that it was written for anyone in specific really, but then again I don't really believe they took from their own lives unless they say so... Dear Prudence is about Prudence Farrow, Julia is about John's mother and Yoko, Hey Jude is about Julian, etc. They told us those were about people in their lives...
