It's about finding your soulmate. You're both born into a crazy show that is life. He doesn't really care, he just wants to find her, but she got caught up in the crazy world. The guy next to him watching the girls is to show that the guy doesn't even look at the girls in life as they pass by cuz all he cares about is his girl. This girl has beautiful innocent eyes, but as she goes through this crazy life people "chew the apple of her life" and take her innocence away.

Wow, I've listened to this song at least 500 times and i thought he was saying, "i like your healing voice" or "i like your heathen voice" and i always preferred the latter especially considering the rest of the Lips lyrics. Helium never crossed my mind and honestly, though it makes sense, is so disappointing after all these years. Lol
Every lyric site has said this, and I swear it's wrong. Is he really saying "I Like Your Helium voice?" To me, it's always sound like "healing", and I can't hear an M on there. Granted, either way it might make some sense... 'cause he's drunk all the time.

I really love this song. You can relate to it in so many ways. Then there's that erie note in the background that really just eats at you the whole time it plays. its perfect.
I think this song is about someone who goes to a flaming lips concert. They aren't really a fan of the band or familiar with their music, they went with their friend or significant other and got separated from them. The person feels sad and out of place but decides to make the best of it.
I agree that this has to be about loss of innocence in general.
I wrote the line "chewing the apple of your eye". Haven't you ever heard the saying, "My son is the apple of my eye"? I'm chewing on your son...the apple of your eye. I don't know what the rest of the song is about. I never asked him.
