Little Fury Things Lyrics

What is it?
Who is it?
Where is it?

[Chorus:]
A rabbit falls away from me, I guess I'll crawl
A rabbit always smashes me, again I'll crawl
Tried to think what's over me, it makes me crawl
Then she runs away from me, faster than I crawl

I stopped to call, tried to feel it all
Stuck my hand and pulled real hard
Got stretch in miles, not in yards
Then I read, about all those who believe all of your lies
Sunlight brings the rage right in your eyes

[Chorus: x2]

Actually guys, Lou Barlow, Dinosaur's bassist, told us that there are "No rabbits" in this song. The correct line's are "I grab, it falls..." every time.

Correct I grab it

@JustinStarbuck I always thought it was, “Gravity falls” away from me, it makes me crawl.

When magicians pull a rabbit out of a hat, or their sleeve, or whatever, it's implied there is way more space in there than it seems from the outside. He reaches in to pull out the hat, and the space goes on for miles. Similarly, he tries to understand the person who lies all the time in the song, but the answer isn't simple, and it's like falling down a rabbit hole.

I love this song. It's one of my favorite by Dinosaur Jr. I think i love it just for that intro, that guy screaming like crazy and then... "a rabbit falls away from me" ...it's a dinosaur jr. song again. Genius. And there's a tamborine part. It doesn't get any better.

As to what it's about... i haven't the slightest.

i think maybe he is talking about a woman who is unattainable no matter what he does she just doesn't reconagize him

If you think about it, it's about him stalking someone (as dark as Dinosaur Jr.'s lyrics tend to be). "A rabbit falls away from me" signifies the break up, and he crawls after her (as she is represented by a rabbit which hops around on the ground). "A rabbit always smashes me" is her trying to keep him away with force, but he continues to crawl after her. "Try to think what's over me" suggests his lack in control of his habit. And her running faster than he crawls simply states that he'll never have her again. The opening represents the girl calling out in fear or anger (or both), and the middle part talks about how he stretched the situation out and made it worse, and how he made her angry by keeping any new suiters away by telling them her lies. The middle part is hard to interpret, but it's definately a song about a stalker.

I don't think you can ever say what it means. I think it was purposefully made to be not easily understood so that the listener could take his or her own interpretation from it.

When I heard this, I got a totally different interpretation then the whole stalker thing because of what I was going through. The line "Tried to think what's over me, it makes me crawl Then she runs away from me, faster than I crawl" means, to me, like when you're trying to figure out where you're going in life and how to deal with the situation and you get so caught up with that you lose her as she runs away faster than you crawl. Crawling symbolizes moving through life slowly and confused while others run away.

Beautiful song... Listen to it and make your own interpretation.

agree, all Dinosaur songs can be interpretted in many ways but they always tend to end up meaning something that's affects you
