Feel the Pain

This song is easily understood. Like when people talk to you about their problems.. sometiems you can empathize, other times you don't care.

i always thought of it as the singer being someone who has everyone telling them their problems, to the point where they can't feel anything for themselves. essentially they've "screwed us both again,"

its like all their problems have burdened yourself with everyone elses problems that you end up digging a hole for yourself in the process. its the most depressing feeling ever.

I think of the "then I feel nothing" part as getting completely wrecked on whatever so he doesn't have to feel so depressed.

This is a song about the destruction of the self and others. When you get so lost in your self pity you just can't let go, and you recklessly go on with your stupid game despite what it might cause to others (portrayed by the videoclip, where two men play golf in NYC, probably the most unsafe place to practice golf). Still, there's a sense of guilt ("I feel the pain of everyone"), but "then you feel nothing" because you're still playing your stupid golf game and you have to carry on with it.

In the Spotify version, you can hear a cork bottle being opened before the song, which might suggest that this reckless game of destruction is particularly alcoholism.

"I feel the pain of everyone Then I feel nothing" This is exactly how I've been feeling lately. Depression is a bitch, man.

Yeah, Eatcarpet has got it right. I don't know if dinosaur jr wrote it about depression....some of the other lyrics don't really suggest it...but those two lines are really identifiable with that feeling

I think it's about someone that gets everyone's baggage piled on him and then eventually he can't deal anymore. He becomes numb and miserable.

The repetitive lyrics, how you feel the pain, then nothing.

Like a depression episode, Of everyone, on everything, sad, mad, anxiety, being empathetic to others while you have yours, it's overwhelming

It's all , into pain then it mushes up into nothing, as a way of blocking it out, you feel blank, Like "nothing"

Of course as an artist when you feel these overwhelming feelings, you'd turn to drugs, that'd explain the ending of trying to keep it clean not to turn to them... to numb it even more, to not think.

Is it up to me? As in you feel the pain of everyone, but, no you cannot do anything about it. Powerless... maybe from your own addictions, or solutions to these pain of everyone.

No clue about screwed us both again.. you wont wait to see,... hey now take it back...it could reference to a specific flashback of a moment, maybe with another person, or an internal fight with self...

But i do know one thing. Depression eats away at you, and results and acts and behaviors that you regret. Maybe the uncontrollable use of drugs that someone doesn't want you to use, an outburst while you're going through in the middle of those depressive, "feeling" episodes.

You wont wait to see...as in maybe someone will desert before he can figure out the solution of what he could've done ... of what's up to him? Or a doubt that someone would be there.

Even in the guitar riffs, how an episode of extreme pain, sorrowful feeling... it starts out slow with all these thoughts, and then it gets faster, then speeds up the fastest when you're in extreme grief , feeling like bursting, then all of sudden slowing down when you're numb...of nothing. Then the cycle repeats.

Something about it connects with the way our mind goes through these process. It just makes sense.
