She's Got Her Ticket Lyrics
She's got her ticket
I think she gonna use it
I think she going to fly away
No one should try and stop her
Persuade her with their power
She says that her mind is made
Up
Why not leave why not
Go away
Too much hatred
Corruption and greed
Give your life
And invariably they leave you with
Nothing
Young girl ain't got no chances
No roots to keep her strong
She's shed all pretenses
That someday she'll belong
Some folks call her a runaway
A failure in the race
But she knows where her ticket takes her
She will find her place in the sun
And she'll fly, fly, fly...
I think she gonna use it
I think she going to fly away
No one should try and stop her
Persuade her with their power
She says that her mind is made
Up
Go away
Too much hatred
Corruption and greed
Give your life
And invariably they leave you with
Nothing
No roots to keep her strong
She's shed all pretenses
That someday she'll belong
Some folks call her a runaway
A failure in the race
But she knows where her ticket takes her
She will find her place in the sun

I think this song is about a girl turning to suicide. She's unable to bear it all any longer and sees this as her "ticket" to salvation.
I still think theres quite a link to suicide. "ain;t got no chances, and find her place in the sun" sound like leaving this world.
This is about a girl with no family that nobody believes in and all she wants to do is fly away from all the bad things and negativity and drama and be free to be herself without corruption greed and hatred attacking her. She says you give someone your life and then they will just leave you in the end empty handed with nothing. People call her a runaway because she won't stay in their cages, conform and do what they want her to do which seems like give to them until she has literally nothing of herself left, so she says why not leave and go away from everyone because nobody loves her or ever believes in her no matter how much she give out. So, she says nobody should try and stop or manipulate her into stopping because she's made up her mind to fly away and be free to be herself away from hatred pain and people who hurt and then abandon her. I don't think this is at all a suicide song, she's just leaving running far from the people who hurt her to be free of the pain that's all hoping she'll find a place where she can just be without pain and be free to be herself someday. That's what I think this song is about.
I don't think that this song is about committing suicide. I do agree with gaya that she can't take it any longer, but i don't think that she'll kill herself. For me this is kind of a "hope song". There is all this stuff that makes you sick. And you decide that you don't wanna be a part of it anymore. So you leave. Maybe you'll find your place or you won't . At least you tried.
And this song is my "OK" :)
I agree, DMN. Suicide? I don`t think so.
i do agree with 'DMN', however, i can see how this song may sound as if she wants to comit suicide, as it does have a strong depressing tone. amazing song anyways....
I don't think this is about suicide. I think that Chapman is saying that not belonging and wanting to escape from the corruption is a sign of courage rather than a 'failure in the race' as she will 'fly' away above them all
Tracy is SOOOO soulful in this song.
I find this song filled with hope. Shame on those who jump to the conclusion a girl can only be free of 'Too much hatred, corruption and greed' by killing herself. This song is about being bold, never looking back, and enjoying your freedom. Granted, if it really was about suicide the happy reggae feel would be rather ironic, a bit too much maybe...
