this is what i think the song means:

• so its about a guy and a girl and they mean so much to each other but the guy thinks he should leave her alone, because he did something bad to her (cheating etc, iunno) and when ever they get into a situation the guy doesn't want to talk about he trys to change the subject, its his sort of defence from her.

And we wake up in the breakdown of the things we never thought we could be

• they realise that what they are doing is slowly breaking them apart. beacause of the girls personal problems she blames him for feeling bad, but the guy is saying that its not his fault she feels bad, and that she shouldn't be afraid of him because he never meant to hurt her so badly.

• the girl needs help and hes trying to move her to somewhere where she can be helped. he always knew something was wrong with her and he thought he would be able to save her from her problems but he now realises that from the start he wasn't going to be able to do anything for her and what he has done to her has just made it worse.

• he wants to be free from them fighting, so he thinks if she can tell him the truth it will help. he knows shes feeling bad and he wants to be there for her but he can't help because he screwed things up with her and now he knows that they can't be together, i think 'here' is the place where they are themselves with each other but that feeling has gone away.

• i think the pollution in him is like about something he has said to her and even though he tries to stop saying the things he does he can't find a way to stop. he was never going to be able to help her so he's telling her to give up on him.

• he doesn't want to feel the pain of their relationship anymore. the reason she feels bad is because of something that happened to her in the past before they met and he not going to try anymore. she though she could lie about feeling better so he would stay with her but it didn't work.

• he knows that she will find someone who will help her so hes letting her go.
