it seems like this song is about his girlfriend and the pressures their relationship will face once he gets famous. and he's also saying how much he loves and needs her and how grateful he is to have her. ben kweller is awesome....shes a lucky girl :)

This is my absolute favorite Ben Kweller song. I don't even know why. I just love it. Especially the part that goes "But if your head is up you won't get much sadder. But who am I to preach a word or two when I can't even lift my own head without you? If my mental state kept you from coming around I hope the world would shoot me down for losing you."
It reminds me of being grounded in your relationship with someone... just like a healthy relationship with a family grounds you. No matter what happens, you can keep your roots in this one special person.

First off, great song.
I definitely think the book metaphor carries through the whole song. "I'd sell my book for free... it's what you do to me." It sounds like he'd do absolutely anything for this person, he'd give HIMSELF away before he let them down.
"The press will impeach..." I think maybe he's talking about disapproving parentals. Get it. Press, books.
"I guess they'll read everything about you..." So sweet. He's saying SHE (I'm assuming she) is written all over him. Aw.
