Too Many Sandwiches Lyrics
Shopping spree for the family tree,
Haven't seen your family tree in quite a while
Too many sandwiches and wine,
Sherry stains down your best mans tie,
What a speech.
The band arrives, the granny's cry,
The singers tongue's in the barmaids mouth,
What a voice.
Grandpa drunk a drop or two,
His heads still stuck in the portaloo,
What a man.
You bought a sequin dress for your chicken breast,
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,
And a man who sings,
The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
And that's just tonight
The blue rinsed hairs lift up the chairs,
The bands too loud they're off downstairs,
What a noise.
The bride and groom they dance their dance,
And the singer mimes "there's still a chance",
The barmaid smiles
You bought a sequin dress for your chicken breast,
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,
And a man who sings,
The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
And that's just tonight
You bought a sequin dress for your chicken breast,
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,
And a man who sings,
The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
Ha! Grandpa drunk a drop or two,
His heads still stuck in the portaloo again!
The bride and groom they dance their dance.
The singer mimes "there's still a chance tonight"
And the barmaid smiles.
Haven't seen your family tree in quite a while
Sherry stains down your best mans tie,
What a speech.
The singers tongue's in the barmaids mouth,
What a voice.
His heads still stuck in the portaloo,
What a man.
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,
And a man who sings,
The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
And that's just tonight
The bands too loud they're off downstairs,
What a noise.
And the singer mimes "there's still a chance",
The barmaid smiles
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,
And a man who sings,
The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
And that's just tonight
The disco's late and he's overpaid tonight,
You got a diamond ring,

The man who sings made love to the barmaid twice,
His heads still stuck in the portaloo again!
The singer mimes "there's still a chance tonight"
And the barmaid smiles.

It's about a wedding. A really crap one, and all these bad things happen.
this is a song about how no matter how well planned something is, life will always find a way to mess things up. This is a terrible wedding, but it shows how human all the characters are, as opposed to everybody's 'PERFECT' ideal of a flawless wedding.
The small statements at the end of every verse (eg: "What a voice") are for humour: he sings with an optimistic and tongue-in-cheek view of this wedding. Even though it's all going wrong, he sees the experience as fun and rich in humanity as the chaos continues through the night. Where's the fun in everything being perfectly in order, no errors or anything?
To me, that's what the song's about: because "Life's a box of chocolates..."
Yep quite simple lyrics but still a great song!
.. Absolutely amazing song, one of my faves from the Stereophonics!
