Gangsta's Paradise Lyrics

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life
and realise there's nothing left
cause I have been blasting and laughing
So long that even
My mama thinks that my mind is gone
But I never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
Me be' treated like a punk you that's unheard of
You better watch how you talking or you and your homies might be lying chopped i really hate the
The trip but I gotta go as they go I see my self at the piston smoke
Fool am the kind of G that the homies wanna be like on my knees at night sayings prayers at the street light

Chorus:(l.v.music) x4
Been spending most their lives
Living In the gangster's paradise

Verse 2 (Coolio)

Look at the situation they got me facing
I can live a normal life I was raised by the streets
I gotta be down with the hood things
To much television they got me chasing dreams
Am a educated fool with money on my mind
Got my tin in my hand with the green in my eye

The bigger meaning behind this song is about people trapped in something they can't escape, despite knowing how bad it is and that it will probably be their demise. I could go through every line and analyze it (and I have; wish I still had that document), but it's pretty self-explanatory anyway if you look at it from that perspective. He simply uses gangster-dom as one example.

I'm not normally into this kind of music but this song actually means something important, its trying to get a message across, which is unusual in rap or whatever style this is cuz most of its all about the girls, the sex, the money and the jewellry

ROCK ON!

A lot of rap has meaning to it, youjust only go off of the mainstream popular and judge the rist based on that. Anyone could listen to pop/main stream rock and think Rock n Roll is shallow and stupid. Try Immortal technique, Tupac, NWA, Big, Eminem(before he went mainstream), basically underground and old school rap and not shallow meaningless mainstream rap and you will see the "poetry" aspect of the "P" in Rap music (i.e. Rhythm And Poetry).

You haven't listened to much rap is you think a message within rap music is unusual

I believe tis song's supposed to be about living in the 'run-down' areas of cities, especially in the US.

it's about a gangster who is so depressed with the life he's living and what's happening, this is a real heart-breaking song, and it is damn serious, I luv it completely. I'm sure that we can all relate to this song, all of us, whether we're criminals, anti-criminals, or people who just witness/and know about the recklessness of everyday. :(

I love this song. How can you NOT know what this song is about? It's about an older gangster who is just realizing that he has been spending his life the wrong way. In the video he is explaining to a woman about the gangster life and telling her not to be apart of it. Anyways, great song, Coolio is awsome!

I'm not so sure. He says in the song that he is 23 right?

This is a cover but who did it in first place...

It's been almost 12 years now, so I guess you won't read this. But for anyone else who's interested, it's Stevie Wonder - pastime paradise.

I really like this song. It was released when I was in year 6, and becamse kind of our anthem for that final year of primary school. Though, being all 11 and 12 years old, we didn't really know what it was about. Great song though, one of the only rap songs I like.
