Certainly seems to be foretelling some kind of doom/apocalyptic event or crisis. Perhaps a warning about spiritual fall of humanity as a whole and on a personal level. The biblical references and the beautiful parallel between macro- and micro- universe in the form of the sky and one's eyes.
