When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin' love was just for fun
Those days are gone

Livin' alone
I think of all the friends I've known
But when I dial the telephone
Nobody's home

All by myself
Don't want to be, all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don't want to live, all by myself anymore

Hard to be sure
Some times I feel so insecure
And love so distant and obscure
Remains the cure

All by myself
Don't want to be, all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don't want to live, all by myself anymore

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And makin' love was just for fun
Those days are gone

All by myself
Don't want to be, all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don't want to live, all by myself anymore

All by myself
Don't want to be, all by myself anymore
All by myself
Don't want to live, all by myself anymore

All by myself
Don't want to be, all by myself anymore

My InterpretationI think this song resonates with us as human beings and our emotions. When you`re young you really don`t need anyone. You have school, your friends, dreams. But when we really get out into the real world, we face more difficulties and are no longer that carefree youth anymore.

"Making love was just for fun" is saying that while even though making love was just for fun, you finally at some point in your life realize that you would rather have more commitment and meaningful relationships in your life.

"nobody`s home" is just one of those times we all experience when we want to reach out and talk and no one is available. It`s a feeling that everyone is "having fun" and you are alone.
