Velvet Goldmine Lyrics

You got crazy legs, you got amazing head
You got rings on your fingers and your hair's hot red
You got wit from my tongue, name on the sun
I gotcha going to my breast
Cause you're the only one, who uses school to pleasure

You make me act real gone, you make me trawl along
I had to ravish your capsule, suck you dry
Feel the teeth in your bone, heal ya head with my own
Why if I don't have you home, we'll have to fight alone
Hang all together

Velvet Goldmine, you stroke me like the rain
Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay
Velvet Goldmine, naked on your chain
I'll be your king volcano rise for you again and again
My Velvet Goldmine

You're my taste, my trip, I'll be your master zip
I'll suck your hair for kicks, you'll make me jump to my feet
So you'll give me your hand, give me your sound
Let my sea wash your face, I'm falling, I can't stand
Oooh! Put your mink on

Velvet Goldmine, you stroke me like the rain
Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay
Velvet Goldmine, naked on your chain
I'll be your king volcano rise for you again and again
My Velvet Goldmine

Oh
Shoot you down, bang bang

Velvet Goldmine, you stroke me like the rain
Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay
Velvet Goldmine, naked on your chain
I'll be your king volcano rise for you again and again
My Velvet Goldmine

to me this song as a VERY CLEAR sexual meanning. The "VELVET GOLDMINE" is obvisly a very intmante part on a woman. So to me this song is just about being with your lover and making love

O yeah i also forgot to correct the lyrics listed here. It is not "right for you" it is RISE FOR YOU

Let my sea wash your face XD If a boy ever said that to me id slap him and then let him as a reward for his courage.

Velvet Goldmine is also a, as my Thai friend refers to them, "Gay Movie" -- meaning, a movie about gay men. This song could very well be able the movie. If you look closely, you'll notice Bowie doesn't mention if he's singing about a female or not, which leads me to suspect it very well could be about this movie (if you look at Bowie's other songs, if he's singing about a woman, he lets you know). Yes, I am aware of the line "panther princess" said a few times.. but I know some gay men who enjoy being called "princess"..

if you ain't going nothing to say, then kill yourself.

Oh yeah. You see, scheisse, I'm an idiot who is boycotting sleep and watching too many gay movies (I'm standing on day 4 of no sleep -- well, unless you include that hour I got on day 2..Let's not). I'm gonna go watch West Side Story now, because I can.

Well, the original working title of the song was 'He's A Goldmine'. Which therefore implies that it's not about a woman, making it all the more appropriate for Todd Haynes to steal the title for his movie.

LYRIC CORRECTION: "I'm falling UP I can't stand"

katthikarioftheturks... velvet goldmine came out in '98 or '99, and its title came FROM this CLASSIC (meaning MUCH older) bowie song. the movie is a thinly veiled "fictional biography" of david bowie, and the only reason you don't actually hear this song in the movie is that bowie refused to allow his songs to be used in the film, much to its makers' chagrin. you're right about there being a connection... but you're very much off base in every other respect. a simple examination of the release dates for the song and the movie would tell you that.

"You got crazy legs, you got amazing head You got rings on your fingers and your hair's hot red You got wit from my tongue, name on the sun I gotcha going to my breast Cause you're the only one, who uses school to pleasure"

This phrase, like the rest of the song, is all about himself. Rather proud of himself, ain't 'e? Come on, red hair? "uses school to pleasure" about his information/literature addiction.

"You make me act real gone, you make me trawl along I had to ravish your capsule, suck you dry Feel the teeth in your bone, heal ya head with my own Why if I don't have you home, we'll have to fight alone Hang all together"

More of the "I understand myself on a deep level" spoutings. Really, read about the man. Occultism, yoga, etc. Get into it before you doubt my statements.

"Velvet Goldmine, you stroke me like the rain Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay Velvet Goldmine, naked on your chain I'll be your king volcano rise for you again and again My Velvet Goldmine"

All about how glorious it feels to be him doing what he does to feel like he does...and the necessity for upkeep both mind and body....keep that up and that inner energy self with continue to "erupt" every time.

"You're my taste, my trip, I'll be your master zip I'll suck your hair for kicks, you'll make me jump to my feet So you'll give me your hand, give me your sound Let my sea wash your face, I'm falling, I can't stand Oooh! Put your mink on"

The last line can throw you as it's a minor monologue that expresses the point of self-indulgence of this self he has cultivated (in fact, turning away from or putting off any urge will dampen and dull the mind from it, fyi, thus he relishes any thought that cultivates further an excitement with this facet of himself; beauty/image). "master zip": one of the pet names for himself (see chorus).

"Velvet Goldmine, you stroke me like the rain Snake it, take it, panther princess you must stay Velvet Goldmine, naked on your chain I'll be your king volcano rise for you again and again My Velvet Goldmine"

"Velvet Goldmine" is his mind. That's all. His "Black Country Rock" (see my explanation on that song's page).

Don't worry kids, I too once thought the "velvet goldmine" he was talking about was his homo-sexed anus...then I got smart.

Exactly! I knew when he said the lyrics about his hair that it was about him! Bowie was a very vain person. He liked the attention and glamor that he got from the media with his androgynous looks, his intense costumes, and his little thing with Mick Jagger. Don't get me wrong, I'm not downing Bowie at all! That's just how he was and he didn't care. He did what he felt like, hell I would if I were king of the underground.

@liplex No, REALLY, it's about sex. It really obviously is.

@liplex mate it’s about gay oral accept it

I've heard it's supposed to be about making out and 'explicit' oral sex with a man, but was then cut back a bit to make it more ambiguous
