Sorrow Lyrics

With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow
Sorrow
You acted funny trying to spend my money
You're out there playing your high class games of sorrow
Sorrow

You never do what you know you oughta
Something tells me you're the Devil's daughter
Sorrow, sorrow

I tried to find her
'Cause I can't resist her (I tried to find her)
I never knew just how much I missed her
Sorrow
Sorrow

With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you was sorrow
Sorrow

With your long blonde hair
I couldn't sleep last night
With your long blonde hair

Maybe this is my personal experience slipping into the intrepretation again, but I get the feeling this is about being in a relationship with a woman you know that isn't good for you but you can't let her go.

I can't believe no one has written anything on this song. Another profoundly simple, beautifully written song by one of the best singer/songwriters of every generation he's existed in, which is a pantload. Simple meaning, but so well done, i couldn't leave it uncommented on.

If you are meaning David Bowie, he didn't write this. This was recorded on his album Pin-ups, which is an album of all covers of 60's British songs he liked.

Having started listening to D. Bowie a lot more lately, I've noticed that he takes random lines from the Beatles... Who wouldn't though?

Two facts: This song was not written by Bowie (after all, it's on his 'Pin-uops' album, which is all covers), it was originally recorded by The Merseys. George Harrison actually borrowed the couplet "With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue" for "It's All Too Much"

doesn't read like something bowie would have written, but then again one He's not one to define predictability. does anyone know who the woman in the music video is?

That's because he didn't write it, it's a cover.

And I forgot to mention that the line "With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue" is actually in a Beatles song, 'It's All Too Much' (Harrison). However it is actually a reference to this song. The song contains many references to other songs also.

The original "Sorrow" was recorded by The McCoys, of "Hang on Sloopy" fame, as a B side to another single. It was THEN re-recorded by the Merseys (formerly the Merseybeats) and became a big hit for them in the UK. Then, David Bowie covered it. For my money, Bowie's version is unquestionably the best one. And none of these artists wrote the song. Also, Harrison quoted the song; no one lifted the line from him.
