now that's funny. I was reading about a novelist called Kurt Vonnegut when I discovered the name Flannery O'Connor, which happens to be Vonnegut's favorite writer. to my surprise, I find that she's written a story entitled "A Good Man Is Hard To Find", the same title of a Sufjan Steven's song. then I randomly decide to take a look at Beulah's lyrics and here it is: A Good Man Is Easy To Kill, certainly referring to the title of O'Connor's short story.
First of all, its not a book, its a Short Story: "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor.
The story is about a family who go on vacation with their annoying grandmother who ultimately gets the entire family murdered by an escaped convict. Once the entire family has been killed and the convict is holding his gun to the grandma's head, she makes the hopeless attempt to try and convert him to Christianity. In her moments just before death, she wasted her time talking about religion.

this is a great fucking song, probably about how someone was in a car crash and barely holding on to life. On his/her deathbed, they are still evading the important topics like love and life. They are just submitting to their slow death when they need to maintain hope and hold on to everything that matters in the life that is slipping away because this person is needed by others. the only thing they should give up is their love to those who care so much. It's a sad subject under the guise of an upbeat and well orchestrated song. Beulah kicks my ass...
Ah, an update. This sound was written about a car crash involving the lead-singer's father. Quite somber.

I completely agree about the "Don’t know about God/ but I believe in you" part. It seems to embody the essence of the song. I never knew the backstory, but now it makes a lot more sense.
What is even more funny about this song is that some sly fellow at an ad agency put the intro music in a car commercial! You've got to imagine the good people at Dodge never asked to look at the songs lyrics ("when you went through that windsheild") before okaying the ad
