Rock On Lyrics
Rock on, ooh my soul
Hey kids boogie too, did ya
Hey shout, summertime blues,
Jump up and down in my blue suede shoes
Hey kids rock and roll, rock on
Which is the way that's clear
Prettiest girl I've ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
James Dean, rock on

I think that this song is a eulogy to Eddie Cochrane-"Summertime Blues," Elvis- " Blue Suede Shoes," Bob Seger- " Old Time Rock & Roll," a song called "Shout" and to the actor James Dean. He was a "Rebel Without a Cause."
@stringofpearls This song was came out in 1973. Old Time Rock & Roll came out in 1978.

@stringofpearls Well, of course this has NOTHING to do with Seger and "Old Time..." . This was released in 1973 and Seger's was released in 1978. This internet-idjut BS gets annoying....

I agree with stringofpearls, with the addition that he is reflecting back, and at the end is looking to the future of music. "where do we go from here"

This song is great. The days of psych/trip rock was awesome. Its too bad that essex has to be the pinnacle of "one hit wonder"/// Also. i HIGHLY recommend the smashing pumpkins cover of this (available on Judas 0). It tears it up.. really fills up the song nicely.

Decades later, and despite the fact David Essex was a one hit wonder, this song is still dead freaking sexy. You wanna get a MILF horny? This is the song to do so.

THis song is so amazing and yes I agree dead sexy! wow..they just don't make um like that anymore.. hint, hint

Def Leppard also now do a cover of this song on their new album "Yeah" (which is a bunch of pretty cool covers). They actually do a pretty damn good job at this one too.
