Hell, I'm a heterosexual male and this song makes me want a cowboy.
I was cuddling with my guy friend on my bed (purely non-sexual, I assure you) and this song popped into my head. I was in his arms, on a blanket made of stars (my comforter has moons and stars on it). Probably a coincidence, but still.
This song was written by Dixie Chick Martie Maguire, who at the time was Martie Seidel, along with a songwriter named Marcus Hummon. According to interviews I have seen, and backed up by the web, Martie wrote the song for her sister inthe band, Emily Robison, who was getting married. The song's title and inspiration some from the 1970's commercial and then saying, "Calgon Take Me Away."

For me, true story, its about a girl and her boyfriend who used to do that stuff, and he died, and now she just wants to do it again, even the little stuff. Its why she says 'closer to heaven boy, and closer to you'. That's what it means to me because I'm the girl and my Michael's the cowboy. I used to call him cowboy, too. I heard that song on the night he died, right after our song, the dance by Garth brooks. I nearly killed myself to be with him I was so sad, but he'd told me to live for him, so I knew I couldn't.
I have always wanted a tall handsome cowboy. This song just makes me want it even more. Haven't found him yet but hopefully before too long I will.
So relaxing... reminds me of just being in a field with the one I love (if he was a cowboy - fine by me!) and not having a care in the world. Such a beautiful song.
