I Drove All Night Lyrics
I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
What in this world
Keeps us from tearing apart
No matter where I go I hear
The beating of your heart
I think about you
When the night is cold and dark
No one can move me
The way that you do
Nothing erases this feeling between me and you
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
I drove all night... to hold you tight...
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Keeps us from tearing apart
No matter where I go I hear
The beating of your heart
I think about you
When the night is cold and dark
The way that you do
Nothing erases this feeling between me and you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
I drove all night... to hold you tight...

Celine's version is horrible
Roy's version is good
Cyndi's version is the best
Who cares about the wench celine, they ask for comments on what you think of lauper's song, this is not the dion section.
Oh my god, celine would drive a person over the edge. When I was a kid my mum would force me and my brother to listen to her in the car. one day we walked to school cos we hated her so much
oh god...can you believe celine dion had the nerve to butcher this song?
I kinda like Celine Dion, but I also agree--she RUINED this beautiful song.
this song is one of Cyndi's best. I love the imagery that comes to mind.
Who cares what neither Ceilne or Cyndi did, Roy Orbison did it way better! RIP the big O!
Roy Orbison did it best, Cyndi didn't do a bad remake... but Celine killed it.
Sorry, nothin against celine dion. I have a couple albums. But maybe no one should've messed with Roy, hoe bag. :)
Celine Dion's cover of this song is just absolutely horendous!
Never heard the Orbinson version unfortunately, though I'm a fan. I LOVE Lauper's version, it's sexy and spunky and always puts me in a funky, wonderful mood. Dion's version? Up to that point, I loved her even though she had a couple of misses musically. After hearing her butchering of this song, however, I'm of the opinion that she should be hamstrung. Then suspended by said hamstrings and beaten like a pinata until she agrees to personally collect and burn every copy of that fiasco that's out there, including the master copy & any MP3's, and the commercial that featured that atrocity. Proof that imitation's not always the sincerest form of flattery.
Anyway, Lauper is a goddess, but we all know that already.
First, it was originally done by Lauper. Orbison did a cover of it. Although the writer had Orbison in mind when trying to get a singer. Dion....well, let's just not talk about it. Second the song is a dark song about an insane guy describing the rape of his victim from his psychotic point of view. Which makes Lauper's version even more dark and haunting.
