Strange Kind of Woman Lyrics
There once was a woman, a strange kind of woman
The kind that gets written down in history
Her name was nancy, her face was nothing fancy
She left a trail of happiness and misery
I loved her, everybody loved her
She loved everyone and gave a good return
I tried to take her, I even tried to break her
She said I ain't for taking, won't you ever learn
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
I spent my money as I took my turn
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
Oh I got a strange kind of woman
She looked like a raver but I could never please her
On wednesday mornings boy you can't go far
I couldn't get her but things got better, she said
Saturday nights from now on baby you're my star
She finally said she loved me, I wed her in a hurry
No more callers and I glowed with pride
I'm dreaming, I feel like screaming
I won my woman just before she died
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
I spent my money as I took my turn
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
Oh I got a strange kind of woman
The kind that gets written down in history
Her name was nancy, her face was nothing fancy
She left a trail of happiness and misery
She loved everyone and gave a good return
I tried to take her, I even tried to break her
She said I ain't for taking, won't you ever learn
I spent my money as I took my turn
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
Oh I got a strange kind of woman
On wednesday mornings boy you can't go far
I couldn't get her but things got better, she said
Saturday nights from now on baby you're my star
No more callers and I glowed with pride
I'm dreaming, I feel like screaming
I won my woman just before she died
I spent my money as I took my turn
I want you, I need you, I gotta be near you
Oh I got a strange kind of woman

Strange kind of song about falling in love with a hooker, married her & she died soon after.
Really nice song; shame not many people have commented on Deep Purple stuff! The song is pretty straight-forward, about someone who falls in love with a hooker, then 'won' her shortly before she died.
Has anyone ever thought that this song could have a deeper meaning than just a track about a prostitute that someone fell in love with? What if by saying 'I spent my money as I took my turn' the writer actually meant that he spent his money on buying things for the girl, while taking his turn to be with her in a relationship until she later on left him to start a new conquest with some other unfortunate soul. I think this song has a double meaning; the clearer meaning of a person talking about falling for a prostitute, and the deeper hidden meaning of a person falling for a girl who couldn't care less about him who just milks him for all he's worth.
this is a must hear, especially the Made In Japan version absolutly amazing
What a good song. Really worth listening again and again. The lyrics are straight forward, but they are so great.
Yep, I loved the song when I first heard it, its very catchy like most of their songs, Deep purple rock!
