The Hands of Men Lyrics

Some people stay sick in bed,
sick at work or in their heads.
Doctors can diagnose,
problems they are having most.

Regulate the chemicals,
prescribe all the medicines.
Put you on the right road to recovery.

There where nurses moving you,
shifting you from room to room.
Nurses without names or faces,
carting you to different places.
Subjecting you to 'peace of mind.'

Sleep safely in the hands of men.
Sleep safely in the hands of men.
Sleep safely in the hands of men.

From the doctors to the patients,
please have patience with the nurses.
They ask too many questions,
they give stupid suggestions.
From the doctors to the patients,
please have patience with the nurses.

And you don't need chemicals passing through your head.
And you don't need chemicals passing through your head.

This was the first song i heard from twothirtyeight. It emcompasses to me the best example of thier writing style. I have read many a review about twothrityeight and it seems you either get thier lyrics or you dont. Some people hate them because the lyrics apear to make no sense what so ever. Check out my thing on "The Bathroom Is A Creepy Place For Pictures Of Your Friends" for more...

From what i can gather this song is about a guy dealing with having someone he loves be in a situation where they might die. All of thier songs have a very 'guy' type of emotions in dealing with different situations. He writes about everything except whats going on. From the way he talks about the nurses and the docters you can tell that isn't what he's talking about. He wants to say what he is really feeling.. and that is fear... but all he can say is have patience with the nurses. I know, being a guy, theres so many times that we just sorta cant just come out and say what we feel. This song is musically the weirdest and most amazing song i've every heard. It's so simple and yet so complex. I love it.

I've always thought this song talked about our current 'obsession' with chemicals to solve problems. People are unhappy ("sick") and unfulfilled in their lives, and doctors and nurses keep pumping them full of chemicals instead of really trying to solve the problem.
