Guns, Guns, Guns Lyrics

American hunter, bring ‘em up the north side
Guns, guns, guns
Run, take the money, here’s a bullet for your boyfriend
Guns, guns, guns
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou
Guns, guns, guns
You be the red king, I’ll be the yellow pawn

God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye

Shoot a few, knock ‘em down, cost you half a buck now
Guns, guns, guns
Babe give you kisses if you hit a rubber duck now
Guns, guns, guns
You be the red king, I’ll be the yellow pawn
Guns, guns, guns
Eagle all gone, and no more caribou

God speed Mother Nature
Never really wanted to say good-bye

One of The Guess Who's finest songs and nobody's commented on it yet...

Like 99.9% of all songs, it's about what it says it's about: The Guess Who are obviously afraid that Nature is getting demolished by mankind's quest for money and entertainment and are said to see it go. The damage is so bad that only a god could help Nature now. I tend to agree with the band, and it's sad, really, that the song was written in the 60's (I believe, so don't demolish me if I'm wrong) and on the whole, mankind hasn't really seemed to get the idea that they are literaly destroying their planet... what a shame.

It was written in the eraly 70's, however yes it is an amazing song. Man taking mother Earth for granted, she is dying and we never really wanted to say goodbye..

yeah this song is pretty straight forward but nothing short of amazing. I could see it played for the closing credits of the story of man "never wanted to say goodbye" very sad, but right on the money. Not the first time they write about mother nature either.

Great song, but I think the lyrics posted here are not quite right. Isn't he at the end saying "Never really wanted to sing about it". To me that is better and I think correct.

Mother Nature was being ravaged by Americans coming up to Canada to hunt caribou, Upthe. Nature was going away. "Never really wanted to say goodby."

Listen to it again. It's what he's saying.

The eagle is no longer endangered, so I hope Americans wised up an the caribou are okay too.

This song\'s meaning is obvious. It is the early warning protest song from a rock band of 5o years. What is this American worship of guns? This has destroyed the best of the USA. They are their own worst enemy. Canada seems to be closing in on this terrible culture. Stop the Damned NRA and things will get better and may God protect His Creation.

So I saw an interview with Burton Cummings & he said way back when this song was written that when the band was traveling from the US back to Canada that all these hunters were coming to Canada from the US to hunt game in Canada & back then the airlines would just let the hunters come on the planes just carrying their rifles & such & let the hunters just pile them up at the front of the plane. It upset him that these people were just allowed to go into Canada with their guns & basically take the resources of Canada with zero regard to what they were doing to “Mother Nature”. That’s why he wrote this song.
